UFC Dream Fight Announced: George St-Pierre Vs. Anderson Silva

UFC president Dana White announced on Tuesday’s UFC Tonight that should UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre defeat Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November it would likely setup a fight with Anderson Silva.

When asked by UFC journalist Ariel Helwani how close fans were to seeing the “dream fight” White responded:

“I think we are pretty close. If George St-Pierre beats Condit, that could be the next fight.”

White confirmed on Tuesday that the UFC has been hunting down the perfect location for one of the biggest fights in its history. White then said rumors about Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas were correct.

The UFC founder noted:

“If that fight happens it will probably happen at Dallas.”

Cowboys stadium has been sought after as one of the best options for major fighting events. The stadium which holds more than 100,000 people was the location of two Manny Pacquiao fights. The stadium also offers state of the art amenities.

Should the fight be officially scheduled following the George St-Pierre fight in November there is a good chance the UFC will break its all-time attendance record which saw 55,000 fans pack into the Rogers Centre in Toronto during UFC 129. That match was a St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields event in April 2011.

There are still a lot of “ifs” with this equation but given his dominance in the octagon there is a very real chance that George St-Pierre V. Anderson Silva will happen sometime in mid to late 2013.

Are you looking forward to a St-Pierre v. Silva UFC fight?
