WWE News: WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Officially Released From WWE Contract

“When it rains, it pours.” This is an old expression used in various households across the world to describe a situation in which something bad ends up getting worse. We all know that WWE has had various problems with keeping talent healthy, and they also tend to keep losing people left and right when it comes to injuries. That would make one think that releasing someone with a lot of talent would make no sense whatsoever, especially a young star that the fans love. Sometimes it is not WWE who decides the fate of a talent, but the talent themselves.

However, they did so today. According to WWE, the company has decided to release Cody Rhodes today. Rhodes is 30-years-old, younger than most of the major WWE NXT stars fans want to see come up. He has been with WWE in some shape or form for about 10 years now. When his father Dusty Rhodes passed, many assumed that Rhodes would have some problems handling the situation. He has not been the same with his Stardust character since.

Despite his major angle with Stephen Amell of Arrow fame, Stardust has been nothing of note, and fans have been saying for some time now that Rhodes should just go back to just being himself. The Stardust character is special to Rhodes, however, as the name was a nickname his father gave him. While the character is pretty much a copy of his brother Goldust, he has taken it to new levels. While it was originally a good idea that seemed to take off well, it has since fallen flat.

Some claim the death of his father took a toll while others feel that the world of pro-wrestling is just not for him right now. It was recently announced by Rhodes himself on his personal Twitter account that he asked for his WWE release. WWE, of course, didn’t have to cut the second generation great. However, it seems that they were going to let his contract expire this summer anyway according to Ringside News.

Cody Rhodes simply asked to be let go early from his deal, and it seems that the company was willing to allow this, the same way they did with Wade Barrett recently who was planning to do the same thing as Rhodes.

Some wonder why WWE would release a 30-year-old guy who has a great ability to work various characters, has amazing mic work, and great ring ability. However, this was not totally a WWE decision. Rhodes has been planning to leave for quite some time and had given the departure a lot of thought. After 10 years, he wanted to leave. Some would wonder why, but it is most likely a combination of a lot of things.

WWE’s schedule is brutal. A talent has to travel like crazy for over 250 days in a year. You barely get off days, and it is impossible to spend much time with your family. On top of this, your body takes a lot of punishment as well. While pain comes with the territory, 10 years of it can really take a lot out of someone, and it makes total sense that a person needs a break from that. Many think that Cody Rhodes will be back one day and just needs time away to get right and rest his body.

With Cody Rhodes being married to WWE ring announcer Eden Styles, he clearly has every reason to stick around and be with his wife wherever she goes. However, the time away is useful for someone when they have gone through so much. Rhodes needs time away to rest and he didn’t take a lot of time away after the loss of his father. The mind also needs rest. After so much over the last decade, it makes sense for Rhodes to need time away. He’s still young, so a full retirement seems unlikely. Hopefully, we will see Rhodes in a WWE ring again someday. For now, he will be missed.
