WWE News: Backstage Update On Lilian Garcia’s Rumored WWE Release

The WWE conducted their annual “Spring Cleaning” event last year, which has become a normal thing in the past several years. Included in the releases were Damien Sandow, Wade Barrett, Cameron, Hornswoggle, El Torito, Brooklyn Brawler, Santino Marella, Zeb Colter, and Alex Riley. One week after they were released, it was announced that Christian was let go of his performer’s contract. Thankfully, that doesn’t affect his status with the Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks Of Awesomeness.

WWE fans can breathe easily again for another day. Now, that doesn’t mean that WWE departures are done for now. There were initial rumors that more releases were coming in the next week or two. That hasn’t happened yet, but it won’t stop the WWE from getting rid of more talents to enhance business, or change things up a bit.

That was their reasoning for releasing Sandow, as it was mentioned in a previous report. Sandow got along with WWE officials and was well-liked backstage, but the WWE wanted to change things up, so they released someone who has been with the company for a good period of time. Amid the talent releases, no announcer or ringside announcer was released on Spring Cleaning. Perhaps that did happen, but it wasn’t announced publicly.

A rumor circulated the IWC that led to many believing that long-time announcer Lilian Garcia was quietly let go from the WWE. According to SE Scoops, a reputable source in Court Bauer confirmed the news before his podcast.

“Former WWE writer Court Bauer noted on MLW Radio that Lilian was quietly let go last week. When told about her tweets on returning this Monday, Bauer said he confirmed her release with someone in WWE right before he began recording the podcast. He later added that it’s possible WWE will simply not renew her deal when it expires in the near future, but either she’s gone already or leaving.”

“Adding further credence to the story, Dave Meltzer noted in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had confirmed Christian’s departure, but had not yet publicly acknowledge the release of “Garcia.”

When the rumor was initially started, it was known that her absence on Monday Night Raw was as random as it gets. She wasn’t healing from injury, sick or suspended for any reason. Garcia tweeted about her absence on Raw before the rumors got any stronger.

Hopefully, Garcia’s family is alright, and she claims she’ll be back on Monday Night Raw this week. If she isn’t, then the rumors can ultimately be confirmed as true. Until then, it’s the waiting game with Lilian Garcia and her WWE status. Including her tenure in the WWE’s decision to release her or not, it may be time to move on from Garcia. She’s been with the company for many years and could sustain a successful singing career away from wrestling.

If Garcia’s WWE career is done, who will take the next step up and replace her? I’m biased, but I wish Tony Chimel would return full-time as a ring announcer. However, Eden Stiles and Jo-Jo have done admirable jobs filling in when necessary and even taking on the lead role at times. Whatever the case may be, Garcia is a staple of Monday Night Raw and the WWE in general.
