NFL Rumors: Sam Bradford Asking Philadelphia Eagles For Trade

NFL rumors are swirling around Sam Bradford. The Philadelphia Eagles made a huge trade with the Cleveland Browns to get the second overall selection in the upcoming draft. The belief is that the team wanted to draft one of the top quarterbacks in Jared Goff or Carson Wentz. That does not sit well with Bradford. According to Fox Sports, the former Oklahoma Sooners star is so heated with management that he wants the Eagles to trade him away to another team in the National Football League.

Sam Bradford was under the impression that he was the franchise quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He thought that notion was cemented when he signed a $35 million contract with the team. At the very least, Bradford believed that he had two years to prove to the Eagles that he was the guy to lead them into the future. Instead, Philadelphia mortgaged off a ton of assets to move up in the NFL Draft.

Quarterbacks don’t like to look over their shoulders. We saw how Brett Favre reacted whenever the Green Bay Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers. We also see how comfortable guys like Tony Romo and Tom Brady are with their job security. When a team spends the second overall pick in the NFL Draft on a quarterback, the current starter is going to be concerned. One bad game, and everyone will be demanding a switch at the position.

Trading Sam Bradford might not necessarily be a bad thing for the Philadelphia Eagles. For starters, it would enable them to avoid a quarterback controversy. No one in the NFL wants that. It can tear apart a locker room. Rather than being able to focus on the upcoming games, the media will be constantly hounding the players about which quarterback that they want to see on the field.

Trading Sam Bradford could also speed up the rebuilding process for the Philadelphia Eagles. Starting caliber quarterbacks are a dying breed in the NFL. There are bound to be a few teams that would show interest if the Eagles made it be known that he was available for the right price. Teams in the National Football League are more inclined to talk about trades whenever the draft is taking place. Someone out there could avoid having to spend a valuable draft pick on a quarterback since Bradford would be an immediate solution.

One of the teams that could show interest right away is the Denver Broncos. Peyton Manning retired after winning a Super Bowl. Brock Osweiler surprisingly walked away in free agency. He signed with the Houston Texans instead of being in the shadows of Manning. The Broncos already made one quarterback trade with the Philadelphia Eagles this year when they acquired Mark Sanchez.

Another team that might show interest is the New York Jets. The team still cannot come to an agreement with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Many are saying that they are delaying negotiations because they want to see if they can find another option in the NFL Draft. Management is willing to take a gamble with Fitzpatrick. If nothing is there in the draft, then the Jets might be inclined to ask about Sam Bradford.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not afraid of trading Sam Bradford. They would still have Chase Daniel. He’s a guy that can be a temporary solution at quarterback. The Eagles are already playing him pretty well. They could utilize Daniel while developing Carson Wentz or Jared Goff. That scenario will not get them to the Super Bowl any time soon. However, Doug Pederson is willing to wait if it means that he can have along term solution at quarterback.
