NBA Rumors: Pau Gasol Leaving Chicago Bulls For San Antonio Spurs


NBA rumors have been swirling around Pau Gasol. The star center will become a free agent this upcoming summer. Questions have come up on where Gasol will take his talents to the next season. According to FanSided, the former All-Star will be looking for a new place to call home so that he can compete for another NBA Championship. The San Antonio Spurs might be one of those teams to go after Gasol.

By joining the San Antonio Spurs, Pau Gasol could both extend his career and compete to win another NBA Championship. A couple of years ago, the Spurs tried to go after the All-Star, but he ultimately signed with the Chicago Bulls. San Antonio has done an excellent job at managing minutes, injuries, and the aging process. The Spurs might offer Gasol the best chance to add another ring to his collection.

The San Antonio Spurs don’t just go after anyone in during the free agency period. Last year, the Spurs signed LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, both very unselfish players with a team-first attitude. Going after Pau Gasol would make sense for San Antonio because he shares those same qualities with Aldridge and West. Gasol can score in the low post, rebound, and facilitate from the center position.

If Pau Gasol does end up signing with the San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich will have the luxury of deciding which future hall of fame inductee he wants to use off the bench. Both Gasol and Tim Duncan are team players who would accept that role to win another NBA Championship. Both players would be very effective in either role and could thrive coming off the bench. It would be hard for any backup big man in the National Basketball Association to guard someone as talented as Gasol or Duncan.

Pau Gasol joining up with the San Antonio Spurs could be very beneficial for his career and desire. Gasol would be playing in a system that is good for his skill set. Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili are perfect examples of how much the Spurs value their players. Both players are still playing at a very high level. Ginobili and Duncan are still helping the team win games in many ways.

The San Antonio Spurs could possibly boast one of the best big man rotations in the National Basketball Association. Gregg Popovich would have LaMarcus Aldridge, Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw, and Pau Gasol to choose from. The Spurs would also have David West if he decided to stick around for another year. That is not guaranteed since he is chasing an NBA Championship. San Antonio will also have up and coming big man Boban Marjanovic, who has shown he can be a quality role player in the NBA.

With the addition of Pau Gasol, the San Antonio Spurs would have one of the best benches in the entire in NBA. The bench would consist of Patty Mills, Manu Ginobili, Kyle Anderson, Andre Miller, Kevin Martin, Boris Diaw, and Gasol. San Antonio’s bench has been very consistent throughout the past couple of years. The Spurs bench is also one of the deepest in the National Basketball Association.

It would be wise for Pau Gasol to consider the San Antonio Spurs this upcoming summer. The Spurs organization is one of the best in the entire National Basketball Association. San Antonio has been known to be an international landing spot in the NBA. Gasol has lost some athleticism, but his production and high level of play are what makes him one of the best frontcourt players in the league.
