WWE News: Sting Insists He’s Not Retiring, Still Has A Dream Match In Mind

We’re in the thick of the most important week of the wrestling calendar, with WrestleMania representing the main attraction this weekend in Dallas. The two appetizers leading up to Sunday’s main course are the NXT: Takeover special on Friday night and the Hall of Fame ceremony Saturday evening. Headlining WWE’s class of 2016 is, of course, the Icon, Sting. As is the case this time of year, rumors swirl around WWE’s key players, and Sting is no exception.

Sting has been forced to the sidelines due to cervical spinal stenosis, a neck injury that affects the nerves he suffered wrestling Seth Rollins at Night of Champions back in September of last year. That injury prompted TMZ to report that Sting’s career was over and that the official announcement would come this Saturday night during his Hall of Fame induction speech. The legend has since refuted the report multiple times. On Friday, he was given the chance to speak on the topic yet again, appearing on Good Day Fox 4 in Dallas.

As transcribed by Wrestling Inc, Sting said that nothing has been decided regarding his wrestling boots and whether he was hanging them up. In fact, he hopes he doesn’t have to yet.

“It’s just talk, that’s all it is. Everybody is talking except for me. TMZ and a lot of people are saying that. I’m undecided. I have a dream match that I want with the Undertaker. If I have my way, it’s going to happen.”

Sting went on to say that, believe it or not, it was the WWE Universe and industry supporters who have clamored for that dream match, and he got on board big time.

“It started with the fans. I was always the WCW guy and he was always the WWE guy. Now I’m the WWE guy, and it’s merged and wrestling fans have always wanted to see that.”

WrestleMania 32 may have been the ideal venue for Sting and the Undertaker to clash. Had the injury not occurred, fans may have gotten their wish. Both superstars live in Texas, and it could have been the perfect send-off for at least one of them. Instead, the Deadman will compete against Shane McMahon inside Hell in a Cell. If the Phenom loses, Shane will assume control of Monday Night RAW, and the Undertaker will never wrestle at WrestleMania again.

Sting, meanwhile, will get the opportunity to take the paint off on Saturday in what should be an interesting and entertaining speech to close out the Hall of Fame show. Sting will be inducted by none other than perhaps his greatest rival, Ric Flair.

In regards to his health, Sting has repeatedly stated that he feels completely normal, and he continues to hit the gym and train as if were going to get back in the ring at least one more time. It was believed that the severity of the injury he suffered (the same injury that forced Edge to retire prematurely) would eventually require surgery, but he has yet to go under the knife. The hope is to try every non-surgical method to improve the condition of his back and neck, both of which Sting says do not bother him at this point.

Sting may not be physically able to compete in an actual match at the moment, but rumors are flying that he’ll be involved in the aforementioned Hell in a Cell match. This specific rumor hints that he’ll end up costing the Undertaker the match to set up what everyone wants: Sting vs Undertaker. But the where and when would still need to be determined. And if Undertaker loses Sunday, he’d need the approval of the man who beats him to reinstate him in order for that dream match to happen at next year’s WrestleMania.
