NFL Rumors: Ryan Fitzpatrick Leaving New York Jets For Denver Broncos

NFL rumors have swirled around the Denver Broncos this week. Not only did they lose Peyton Manning to retirement, Brock Osweiler also shockingly left the team to join the Houston Texans. The Broncos have also been linked to Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick because they desperately need a starter. According to NBC Sports, Denver has also been in contact with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has not been doing well in negotiations with the New York Jets.

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway knows how important it is for an NFL team to have a competent quarterback. He’s played the position and knows how valued he was by teammates and coaches. Elway is not someone who wants to rest on his laurels. Sure, he’s bought himself some time and patience by guiding the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory. That’s not enough for Elway, though, because he wants his team to win multiple championships.

Right now, the plan is to try to work out a trade with the San Francisco 49ers so that the Denver Broncos can acquire Colin Kaepernick. The dynamic quarterback wants out of town because the team benched him in favor of Blaine Gabbert. Right now, the Broncos are offering a third round draft pick, while the Niners want a second round selection. If neither side wants to budge, then Kaepernick won’t be making his way to the Mile High City.

Signing Robert Griffin III would mean that the Denver Broncos won’t need to give up any assets aside from whatever money they decide to pay the former Baylor Bears star. He’s a free agent now that the Washington Redskins have decided to give him a release. There’s reportedly some interest in him from a couple of NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, but the Broncos might be the most appealing option since they’re coming off of a Super Bowl victory.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is far from being the sexiest solution for the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation. He’s not going to excite a fan base because many view him as a borderline starter in the NFL. Fitzpatrick had a career year with the New York Jets last season, but very few believe that he can be a long-term solution for any team in the National Football League. A stopgap solution isn’t actually a bad thing because it prevents the season from being lost.

One of the things complicating the situation is the fact that Jimmy Sexton is the agent for Ryan Fitzpatrick. John Elway is none too pleased with Sexton at the moment. He’s the one that helped Brock Osweiler secure a $72 million deal with the Houston Texans. Sexton is also the one that left the Denver Broncos without a starting quarterback. Elway needs one now, but he might not be willing to do business with Sexton.

The Denver Broncos need to figure out if Ryan Fitzpatrick was the biggest reason why he had a career year. Some have pointed out that Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Chris Ivory were the reasons why Fitzpatrick did so well. There are also those that believe that New York Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, a well-respected football mind in the NFL, played a huge part in Fitzpatrick doing as well as he did last season.

Last season, the quarterback position for the Denver Broncos dominated the headlines. Even with Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler no longer around, the Broncos find that the position is still a hot topic of discussion. Regardless if it is Ryan Fitzpatrick, Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick, or someone else running the show, people will be talking.
