Denver Broncos Rumors: Brock Osweiler Gets Contract Offer, Peyton Manning Skips Broncos Physical

Denver Broncos rumors address the Brock Osweiler contract offer and Peyton Manning’s physical. These Broncos rumors come from Saturday, March 5 as the team tries to figure out its quarterback situation for the 2016 NFL season. A report from NBC Sports states that the Broncos have offered Osweiler a deal at over $12 million per season. It also reveals that Manning skipped his physical with the team, further confirming he is done with the Broncos.

So just how much money do these Denver Broncos rumors indicate that Brock Osweiler has been offered? That’s where it gets a little murky. The Denver Post stated that it is “likely more than Los Angeles Rams quarterback Nick Foles.” Foles will make $12.27 million per season with the Rams, showing what the going rate for a non-elite quarterback is in the NFL. The real question becomes how much more than that contract did the Broncos offer Osweiler?

It’s possible that Osweiler and his agent are looking to see what other NFL teams might be willing to offer him in free agency. If the Broncos haven’t come to terms with Osweiler by March 9, he becomes a free agent who can sign with any other team. That could make him even more expensive, but the gamble could also lead to Osweiler making less money in a return to the Broncos. Both sides have positives and negatives when it comes to getting a deal done as soon as possible.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are a lot of Denver Broncos rumors about the team moving on from Peyton Manning. This doesn’t mean that things couldn’t change as the NFL offseason progresses. If Manning is willing to take a large pay cut to return to the Broncos, it is possible that the team could bring him back for the 2016 NFL season. The Broncos don’t have a lot of money to pay in free agency, so saving money on a quarterback could be a great way to address other problems the team might have with the roster.

The current salary cap situation for the Denver Broncos is a bad one, as the team is still over the cap for the 2016 NFL season. Once the Broncos cut Peyton Manning, the team will save $19 million in salary he has been promised. That will put the Broncos about $17 million under the cap, with a lot of positions left to address in the offseason. In addition to settling on a starting and backup quarterback, the Broncos also have to make sure to return several pending free agents.

The front office in Denver still has a lot of work to get done before even thinking about games in the 2016 NFL season. The team has to consider how much it will pay out in rookie signings, as well as filling positions of players leaving in free agency. That doesn’t even cover all the pending free agents that the Broncos might want to bring back under new contracts. Von Miller could still receive a long-term contract as well, even though he has been offered an exclusive franchise tag. Under the franchise tag, Miller makes about $14.2 million next year.

A contract is on the table for Brock Osweiler, and while he hasn’t proven himself to be a reliable starting quarterback in the NFL yet, the Broncos are convinced that he is currently the best option available for the 2016 season. The team could address the situation during the 2016 NFL Draft, possibly by targeting a backup quarterback in the later rounds. For now, though, most Denver Broncos rumors are going to focus on whether or not Osweiler is going to sign that contract offer and how the team will react if he doesn’t.
