Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Arriving Early For Some: Is It An iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Killer?

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge doesn’t officially arrive until next week (Friday, March 11), but some users are getting early copies. According to BGR, one Reddit user has posted his detailed impressions on the new phone.

“Let’s get this out of the way first: battery life seems like an absolute beast so far. I’ve been using it non stop for the past few hours and I’m at 85%. With this same usage I would probably be at 40% or so on my s6 edge already,” BGR quotes the user as writing. But there was more good news after several hours of use.

“Screen on time started at 87% battery as I had to shut my phone off to activate T-Mobile, which reset my battery stats. I still managed to get 6 hours SOT from 87% to 12% with extremely heavy usage, including downloading 50+ apps and setting everything up. I’m impressed. Always on display on the entire time too.”

The user said the front-facing camera isn’t as good as the one on the Galaxy S6; everything seemed muddy and soft. However, the Google keyboard on the S7 Edge is outstanding. Overall, the user is very impressed with the S7 Edge.

Last week, a first impressions review was posted on The Inquisitr.

“After spending about 15 minutes with the Galaxy S7 Edge, it’s hard to recommend those who have the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge to upgrade. The S7 Edge is a beautiful phone that has a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen. However, it’s hard to distinguish it from the Galaxy Note 5, which has a 5.7-inch screen. Many would have preferred the S7 Edge to be a smaller phone like it’s brother, the Galaxy S7.”

The review adds that the display is the best out of any in existence, the “Edge” parts are more prominent, and that the rear camera, despite being a 12MP one instead of a 16MP, is actually the best Samsung smartphone camera to date.

However, PC Adivisor notes that the S7 Edge is actually thicker than the S6 Edge. They added that the S7 Edge isn’t an exact replica of the S6 Edge in that it has a microSD card slot and waterproofing, allowing one to drop it in five feet of water for 30 minutes. However, Samsung doesn’t actually recommend that you try this, but if you get caught in the rain with the Galaxy S7 Edge, you won’t have anything to worry about — unless the rain turns into a tornado.

Still, excitement for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on Twitter has hit an all-time high.

According to Tech Insider, those who pre-order the Galaxy S7 Edge will be given a very special gift.

“You’ll get a free Gear VR headset if you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge…The Gear VR is a virtual reality (VR) headset that uses Samsung’s latest flagship devices, including the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5, to play VR content.”

In addition, those who have the S7 Edge will be able to use Samsung’s new virtual reality camera, the Gear 360, which takes high quality 360 degree pictures and videos to immerse themselves in. 2016 could easily become the year of Samsung’s comeback.
