NFL Coaches Might Be Afraid To Hire Jim Tomsula

NFL coaches looking for a defensive line coach might be leery of Jim Tomsula because of what might have happened between the coach and Jim Harbaugh, according to NBC Sports.

When it became painfully obvious that a divorce between Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers was going to happen, fingers started being pointed and rumors started swirling.

There were reports that someone on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff was plotting behind Jim Harbaugh’s back because they badly wanted to take over as the head coach.

Jim Harbaugh acknowledged the rumors and never denied them. However, Harbaugh never revealed the name of the person, which was expected because it would not be professional.

Not wanting to deal with the drama on a daily basis anymore, Jim Harbaugh mutually agreed to part ways with the San Francisco 49ers and signed with the Michigan Wolverines.

Once Jim Harbaugh left the San Francisco 49ers, the team flirted with Adam Gase and Vic Fangio before deciding to hire defensive line coach Jim Tomsula as their new head coach.

Since he was the one who ended up taking over the San Francisco 49ers head coaching job, people naturally speculated that Jim Tomsula was the one plotting against Jim Harbaugh.

The feeling was that Jim Tomsula was the one who was loyal and obedient enough to Trent Baalke to coach the San Francisco 49ers the way that he wanted them to be coached.

While he appreciated all the successful seasons from Jim Harbaugh, Trent Baalke never liked that Harbaugh did things his own way. That caused friction between the two of them.

One of the things that Trent Baalke really wanted from Jim Harbaugh was for him to open up the offense and make Colin Kaepernick more of a threat as a typical pocket quarterback.

Jim Harbaugh has long preferred to protect his quarterback by leaning heavily on the running game and the defense. He succeeded that way with both Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.

Jim Tomsula and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Geep Chryst tried to make Colin Kaepernick a pocket quarterback this season, and he ended up losing his starting job.

With a lot of pressure from a disenchanted fanbase, Trent Baalke made the tough decision to remove Jim Tomsula as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

Since he does not want to go back to doing odd jobs like being a night janitor, medical equipment sales rep or a doormat salesman, Jim Tomsula will try to find another job in the NFL.

A 5-11 record as a rookie head coach will require Jim Tomsula to take a demotion. Tomsula will either become a first time defensive coordinator or be a defensive line coach again.

The New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns are going to have new head coaches, they’re going to need to find assistants to fill out their staff.

If it is a team or head coach that Jim Tomsula has never worked with before, he might need to answer questions about what happened with Jim Harbaugh. Tomsula will have to earn their trust.

Former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary reportedly wants to be a head coach again in the NFL. If he gets hired, then Jim Tomsula might be able to latch on as an assistant coach.

Then again, Jim Tomsula could probably find a defensive coordinator position on the college level, where he would have a slightly easier path to being a head coach again.

Just a year after being hired as an NFL head coach, Jim Tomsula might be on his way out of the league.
