Impaled At WTC: Construction Worker Suffers Injury At 4 World Trade Center

A construction worker was injured on the job at 4 World Trade Center when it was reported that the worker fell five feet before hitting the ground and impaling himself on a piece of rebar, according to The Huffington Post.

The 37 year-old man was working towards the top of the building when the fall happened. Even though the fall was only five feet, the force of the fall was enough to send the piece of metal that the worker was carrying straight through the side of his stomach, according to Tishman Construction.

A spokeswoman for the New York Fire Department says that the man was immediately transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical, but not life threatening condition.

“He appears to be stable, but we have no further details on his condition at this time,” said a spokesman for the construction company.

Police informed reporters the accident took place towards the top of the building, somewhere near the 72nd floor.

This incident has now been added to the list of mishaps that have taken place at 4 World Trade Center which include a load of steel beams falling from 40 stories high, as well as a report of a boy suffering an injury when a 4-foot medal rod fell from the building.

The report of this worker being impaled on Tuesday comes only one day after developer Larry Silverstein held an emotional ceremony in which they raised the last beam to the top of the building that is set to officially open in the fall of 2013.
