Amazon Video Shows How Drones Will Change The Way People Receive Deliveries [Video]

Amazon has a released a video showcasing drones that will make everyone’s lives so much easier.

The video depicts a situation, narrated by TV Host Jeremy Clarkson, involving a soccer shoe and a bulldog named Stewart, who is very “naughty.”

In the video, the dog has chewed up a child’s soccer shoe on the day of a big game. The child’s mom orders another pair of cleats from Amazon, and a drone delivers the shoes right to the family’s front lawn 30 minutes later.

The video showed “actual flight footage” of one of the state of the art drones flying towards the home with the shoe box stowed safely within.

Clarkson spouted off facts about the “miracle of modern technology” that is the Amazon drones. The TV host indicated that the drones have sensors that allow them to detect objects which may be obstructing their path.

“This one can fly for 15 miles. And it knows what’s happening around it. It uses ‘sense and avoid’ technology to, well, sense and then avoid obstacles on the ground and in the air.”

Clarkson indicated that Amazon plans to construct multiple kinds of drones, specific to the area they are delivering in and the packages the drones will be delivering.

“In time there will be a whole family of Amazon drones, different designs for different environments.”

The type of drones featured in the video weigh 55 pounds and can carry packages weighing up to 5 pounds, according to USA Today.

Amazon mentioned it’s plans for using the drones two years ago in December of 2013, according to CNN. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos went on 60 Minutes to talk about Prime Air delivery service which will use the drones to make deliveries in 30 minutes or less.

“I know this looks like science fiction. It’s not.”

On Sunday, Amazon put a statement up on its website, further elaborating on the company’s plans for Prime Air delivery.

“Amazon Prime Air is a future service that will deliver packages up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less using small drones… Flying under 400 feet and weighing less than 55 pounds, Prime Air vehicles will take advantage of sophisticated ‘sense and avoid’ technology, as well as a high degree of automation, to safely operate beyond the line of sight to distances of 10 miles or more.”

Amazon has not made any indication as to when the public can expect to be able to make use of this revolutionary delivery service. In the statement issued on Sunday, the company said that the release date for the delivery service depends on a few different factors.

“Putting Prime Air into service will take some time. We will deploy when we have the regulatory support needed to realize our vision.”

The regulatory support that Amazon is referring to is FFA regulations that are currently being drafted by the government. Early drafts of these regulations allow only for drones to fly within the user’s sight, which is obviously problematic for Amazon, which is trying to use the drones to deliver to places miles away.

CNN also reported that earlier in the year, Amazon had disagreed with the regulations that restricted the drones from flying only within the user’s line of vision. With this video, Amazon showcased how the drones use sensors and other state of the art technology to safely fly long distances so that it can deliver packages to Amazon’s customers.

“After rising vertically like a helicopter to nearly 400 feet, this amazing hybrid design assumes a horizontal orientation and becomes a streamlined — and fast! — airplane.”

Hopefully soon, the public will be able to enjoy the benefits that come with a convenient thirty minute delivery made possible by these futuristic and revolutionary Amazon drones.
