WWE News: Ric Flair Says Cesaro Would Be The Perfect Opponent For Brock Lesnar

There’s no question that Cesaro is one of, if not the most talented in-ring performer that WWE has. Unfortunately, due to the higher-ups, mainly Vince McMahon, thinking that he’s boring, Cesaro is vastly underutilized.

Every now and then, it appears that WWE has finally gotten behind Cesaro, and that he’s going to get the push to the top that he deserves. However, every single time, after just a couple of weeks, WWE pulls the rug out from under him, and he becomes just another guy again.

Back in December, Vince McMahon appeared on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s podcast, and criticized Cesaro for his lack of verbal skills, and his apparent inability to connect with the WWE audience, despite him having shown in the past that he could connect with the fans.

In an interview with Michael Cole that was conducted several months after McMahon appeared on Austin’s show, Cesaro talked about his reaction to the chairman’s comments about him, saying that he walked up to McMahon the next time he saw him and simply said, “challenge accepted.”

In the ensuing months, Cesaro teamed up with Tyson Kidd, and they quickly became the best tag-team in the company, and they eventually became WWE Tag-Team Champions. Unfortunately the self-proclaimed “Brass Ring Club’s” run came to an abrupt end when Tyson Kidd suffered a very serious neck injury during a dark match with Samoa Joe.

Many were left wondering how Kidd’s injury would effect Cesaro’s position in the company going forward, but, as he always does, Cesaro was able to keep the momentum going, and had two classic matches with the then United States Champion, John Cena.

Once again, much like after he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30, WWE fans began to think that WWE would get behind Cesaro, and position him as a legitimate main-eventer. However, that wasn’t the case, as the “Swiss Superman” was beaten on nearly every show, and was once again pushed down to being just another guy, despite his ability to get over on his own.

Going back to the aforementioned WrestleMania 30 win, and the momentum that Cesaro had coming off of that — WWE fans were excited at the prospect of Cesaro being paired with the man who is considered to be the best talker in the company today, Paul Heyman, and believed that the Cesaro / Heyman partnership would eventually lead to a match between Heyman’s longtime client Brock Lesnar. But, that match never came close to happening, despite the fans’ interest in seeing it.

To this day, fans, ex-wrestlers, and WWE Hall of Famers are still excited at the idea of Lesnar vs. Cesaro, and earlier this week, another Hall of Famer, and possibly the greatest of all-time, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair said that he thinks Cesaro is an ideal opponent for “The Beast.”

Flair also added that, because of Cesaro’s in-ring ability and obvious physical attributes, WWE could get their fans to believe that the “Swiss Superman” is a legitimate threat to Lesnar in just two months if they were completely willing to get behind him.

“I feel like Cesaro, given the opportunity and with a vehicle to convey his thoughts, whether it be through himself or through a manager, which would be me, you could get him ready for Brock Lesnar in two months and the people would believe it. He’s that strong and he’s a good performer. And he’s that big. You’re not going to bounce Cesaro around like a dart. I think he could be a great opponent for Brock Lesnar. I mean, you’d need to stay on him because his work is phenomenal, he looks like a million bucks, and he’s stronger than a horse in real life. He’s really strong, strongest guy in the company, and that came right from John Cena.”

Now that his feud with Undertaker has come to a close, Brock Lesnar is in need of an opponent for WrestleMania 32. As of right now, nobody knows who that opponent will be. Some have predicted that it’ll be either The Rock or “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. But, it’s seems unlikely that either man will wrestle on the show.

So who else could Lesnar wrestle next spring? Both Randy Orton and Seth Rollins, who would be good opponents for Lesnar, are both seriously injured, and will likely miss WrestleMania 32. Lesnar has already wrestled Triple H multiple times, including once at a WrestleMania. So that match is out of the question. Or, at least one would think that it’s out of the question.

Roman Reigns again? Sure, that’s a possibility. WWE does want to do that rematch, however, due to the likelihood of the WrestleMania crowd booing Reigns out of the stadium, that match probably won’t happen at next year’s WrestleMania unless Reigns is a heel.

So, with all of that said, in a perfect world, Lesnar’s opponent, of the willing and available men, would be Cesaro. But unfortunately, WWE doesn’t see Cesaro at that level, and it’s unlikely that they’d put him in one of the top three matches at their biggest show of the year, no matter how thin the roster is.
