WWE Rumors: Was The Rock’s Imminent Return Just Confirmed?

Rumors that The Rock might actually be making a return to WWE have been increasing over the last few days, with the company themselves exacerbating the claims with their actions.

That’s because on Tuesday night, the WWE shop decided to move Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson from the Alumni section to the Current Superstars section. You can check out a tweet confirming this move below.

In fact, you can even check out a screengrab of the move from WWE.com, which was originally gathered by FanSided.

But what this does maneuver actually mean? Well, not only does it mean that The Rock can now call the likes of David Otunga, Dean Ambrose, Diego, and Dolph Ziggler his neighbors on the WWE website, but it has immediately resulted in fevered speculation that The Rock will once again be stepping into the ring.

Recently there has been increasing speculation that The Rock will be a firm part of WrestleMania 32, which is due to take place in April, 2016.

But the WWE’s decision to move his merchandise over to a new section in their online store suggests that The Rock’s return to the ring might actually take place several months before the above.

Which would make sense, as WWE will want to try and increase excitement and anticipation for The Rock’s return to the arena over a prolonged period, so that the fans are at a frenzy when he eventually does walk back into the ring as a competitor.

But who might The Rock be facing if he does actually return to WWE? Well, one person for sure who he won’t be tangling with again is Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The legendary grappler took to his official Twitter account to release an emphatic tweet that denied speculation he will feature at the impending WrestleMania.

In fact, Austin was so incensed with the rumor that he decided to use NSFW language. Austin wrote, “You can take my name off the rumor mill as a Brock Lesnar opponent at WM32. Bullsh** reporting.” Stone Cold has been linked to a return to WWE for years now, and it has still yet to materialize.

It had previously been alleged by the Wrestling Observer newsletter, via Bleacher Report, that WWE was considering pitting Brock Lesnar against either Steve Austin, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, or The Rock for the huge pay-per-view.

The most recent rumors regarding The Rock’s potential opponent at next year’s WrestleMania have focused on him going toe-to-toe once again with Triple H, though.

Like his past with Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock has a long and storied history with Triple H that dates back almost 15 years, and if the pair were to go up against each other, it would be a huge draw for fans of WWE. Heck, even those who haven’t watched in years would probably be intrigued.

According to F4WOnline, via WrestleZone, WWE wanted to include Ronda Rousey in a fight between Triple H and The Rock. Unfortunately, the MMA star is too busy to feature, so the new plan is to now just have the two wrestling legends go at it.

If this does actually happen, it will be the first time that The Rock has appeared in a WWE ring since he made an appearance in Boston back in June. However, before that point, The Rock hadn’t appeared on WWE since WrestleMania 31 when, alongside Rousey, the pair approached and beat down on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
