K-Pop Group Sistar Finally Opens An Official Instagram Account Even Though Each Member Has An Official Individual Account Already

One of the best tools any entertainer can use to help promote their brand is social media. Probably starting with LiveJournal and Myspace, it has improved and expanded with sites and apps like Facebook and Twitter. Pertaining to K-pop, social media is probably one of the reasons why the foreign music genre is so big outside of its native country. Exampling the Facebook pages of current top K-pop acts today, 2NE1 and Big Bang have over nine million fans each on their American pages. If one were to check out these K-pop groups’ Asian social media pages (such as Renren or Mixi), the numbers will be even bigger, surpassing many American and European musical acts.

Though the aforementioned social media sites and apps are the most popular in the world, the one generally utilized the most within K-pop (or Korean entertainment in general) is Instagram. Everyone from famous K-drama actress Park Shin Hye to every member of Girls’ Generation has one. It is peculiar, then, that veteran K-pop act Sistar did not have one. That has all changed, as it is recently reported they finally have an official Instagram account, five years after they’ve officially hit the K-pop scene.

Koreaboo was the first Korean entertainment news site to take notice of Sistar’s Instagram opening. According to their report, Starship Entertainment (the label Sistar works under) probably made it preparation for the release of collaboration track “Lean on Me,” featuring Sistar’s Soyou and 10cm’s Kwon Jung Yeol. This is evidenced by the Instagram account’s first post, a short teaser of what may possibly be the music video for the song. It was followed up by pictures of both Soyou and Jung Yeol recording their individual parts in the studio.

The second and third posts on Sistar’s official Instagram were pictures of Soyou and Kwon Jung Yeol singing their individual parts in the studio.

It should be noted that Sistar is no stranger when it comes to social media, let alone Instagram. Prior to Starship Entertainment’s creation of an official Instagram for Sistar, each of the K-pop group’s members made one a personal one individually. The first was Sistar’s maknae (youngest member in the group), Dasom. Sistar’s leader, Hyolyn, was next, followed by Bora. Soyou was the last member to make an account.

Now, to be fair, Sistar’s individual member accounts were only made this year. This could mean Starship Entertainment may have told Sistar to make accounts and to fill them up with posts to continuously have fans have an active role with them. Whether or not that’s the case, one thing is definitely clear: the STAR1 community is more than happy to catch a glimpse into the lives of each of Sistar’s members and the K-pop group as a whole.
