Will Kylie Jenner’s New App Beat ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’?

Kylie Jenner finally has her own mobile app. It’s been a longtime coming for her fans. Kylie and her famous sisters each launched their own personalized apps and websites on Monday, September 14.

Although Kylie Jenner’s new app is free to download, it costs $2.99 per month to access all the exclusive content. You also have the option to check it out for free with a seven-day trial. Once the trial is over, you have no choice but to pay the $2.99 to get exclusive photos and videos of Kylie Jenner. The famous teen also shares beauty tips and shopping secrets with her fans.

Kylie Jenner’s new app includes three features: radio, looks, and lyfe. The radio includes a playlist of Jenner’s favorite artists, while the “looks” section features the reality star’s paparazzi pics and shows fans where they can purchase her outfits.

The “lyfe” section gives fans behind-the-scenes footage of Jenner’s photo shoots and beauty tutorials.

Kylie Jenner’s app has already received its share of criticism on social media. Some fans are mad that they have to subscribe to access any of the content on Jenner’s app or website. If you access both for free, then all you’ll see is a welcome message from Jenner herself. According to Jenner’s fans, you could get their styling and makeup tips for free on YouTube and Instagram, even in the pages of a fashion magazine.

Paying $2.99 per month for photos and videos seems a bit excessive, but it’s working out. Kylie Jenner’s new app has taken over the top spot in the iTunes Store and in Apple’s AppStore. It’s even beaten out Kim Kardashian’s own personalized app, which currently sits at number four on the list.

It’ll be interesting to see if Jenner’s app will beat out the popular Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game. The app brought in $1.6 million in its first five days. In addition, it earned as much as $43 million in three months. As of Tuesday, September 15, 2015, it currently sits at No. 18 on the Top Grossing Games category and No. 79 on the Top Free Games category.

The success of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood could lead to similar mobile games, even with other celebrities. Kylie and Kendall Jenner have hinted that they’re working on their mobile game, but decided to launch their own personalized apps instead.

Kim Kardashian is aware of the success of her mobile game. She told Mashable at the Apple Store in SoHo on Monday that she’s considering building her Kim Kardashian: Hollywood empire.

“We talk about a [sequel] all of the time. That is why we expand to different countries and cities within the game, such as Milan and Paris. It has been so successful and maintained that success, so we kind of don’t want to jump the gun and start something new when it is still doing so well.”

Kardashian is even open to the idea of a Kanye West: Hollywood game. She previously mentioned that West was the one who suggested that Kardashian should launch her own mobile game.

“If it was the right thing, maybe. As of right now, it’s not anything we’ve ever talked about. He loves video games and he was really helpful on my game and designing the character. He helped me hone in on exactly what that should look like. We were up in his design studio when I was doing fittings on my app, and he was really excited to help. We are both really passionate about gaming, but as of now, there isn’t anything in the works.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Kylie Jenner’s new app will generate as much money. But it doesn’t seem like fans are willing to pay the monthly for so-called “exclusive” content they could find elsewhere. With so little features, her fans could get easily bored and uninstall it. Next week’s reports will show if Jenner’s app is a hit or miss.
