WWE News: CM Punk And Colt Cabana Respond To Dr. Amann’s Lawsuit — WWE Issues Statement

Recent court filings show that former WWE superstars CM Punk and Colt Cabana believe both WWE and Dr. Chris Amann worked together to put forth the current lawsuit. WWE later issued a statement backing Dr. Amann, according to Wrestling News.

In a August 24 court filing, Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, and Cabana, whose real name is Scott Colton, stated that they’re “informed and believe” WWE is working with Amann to bring them down, despite knowing that the claims on Cabana’s podcast– The Art of Wrestling– last year are true.

Below is the statement in which they said the following.

“…that WWE and Dr. Amann collaborated, coordinated and conspired with the WWE in bad faith to prepare, bring and pursue this lawsuit in retaliation against Brooks and Colton for the embarrassment that the Podcast caused the WWE through and as a result of Brooks’ candid and truthful discussion of various of his experiences as a WWE wrestler, despite the fact that the Plaintiff knows full well that the statements about which he complains are true and/or substantially true.”

In response to the statement, WWE issued their own statement.

“Phil Brooks’ latest claim that WWE directed Dr. Amann to file a lawsuit against Brooks is categorically false. Dr. Amann made the decision to file suit in order to protect his professional reputation. WWE conducted its own investigation into this matter and found no evidence of wrongdoing by Dr. Amann, and thus continues to support Dr. Amann and the staff that runs our world-class medical program.”

The podcast in question is the December 2, 2014, edition of The Art of Wrestling. It was the first of a two-part interview in which Punk spoke about his unceremonious exit from WWE for the first time. While airing his grievances, Punk did not mince words when discussing Dr. Amann and his alleged negligence in treating a bevy of Punk’s ailments.

Punk accused the WWE medical staff, including Amann, of clearing Punk to compete despite being concussed. Also, Punk accused Amann of misdiagnosing a lump on his back as a fatty deposit while Punk claims that the lump turned out to be a near-fatal staph infection.

Here are Punk’s exact comments from the podcast regarding Amann not treating the lump on Punk’s back, reports Cageside Seats).

“So they tell me ‘no, we’re not going to do anything about it because it’s just like a fatty deposit, whatever, it’s just like a calcium deposit, whatever.’ So I f*****g let it go, fine. It gets bigger. A couple months later I’m like ‘this f*****g thing got bigger.’ ‘Does it hurt?’ ‘No.’ ‘Well, then, let’s just leave it.’ ‘Let me ask you something, Doc, are you just… is that like your medical opinion or are you just a lazy piece of s**t and you don’t want to f*****g do it? Because I’ve seen you cut like a million of these f*****g things out of somebody.’ ‘Well, you’ve gotta wrestle tonight, and it might need like a stitch.’ I’m like ‘so f*****g what? You’ve put 14 staples in my forehead and then I’ve had to go out that same night and wrestle again. What is preventing you from helping me?'”

Amann filed a lawsuit against both Punk and Cabana in February, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. Amann says that Punk’s accusations were “false and defamatory,” adding that Punk never asked to be treated for purple, baseball sized lump and was never cleared to compete while concussed.

This is likely far from the last update the public will hear from this lawsuit until the matter is resolved. And is likely the last tie that Punk’s name has to WWE as he inches closer to making his UFC debut in the coming months.
