Miami Heat Trade Rumors: Markieff Morris May Be Headed To The Heat

According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat may look to trade for a power forward that would be a dramatic upgrade to their front court. The Miami Heat were last in rebounding this past season.

The Miami Heat may look to pursue Phoenix Suns power forward Markieff Morris. Pro Basketball Talk reports that the 25-year-old could be looking to leave Phoenix. Morris reportedly won’t talk to any Suns players or staff after the trading of his brother, Marcus, to the Detroit Pistons.

Markieff Morris said the following to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“One thing for sure, I am not going to be there,” Morris said Tuesday after a morning workout at Competitive Edge Sports in King of Prussia.

“If you want to put that out there, you can put that out… I don’t give a [freak]. I am not going to be there at all. That’s just what it is.”

Winderman said that a trade involving Markieff Morris and the Miami Heat is a possibility, but is unlikely right now, but if Chris Andersen were to be traded from the Miami Heat, which is a strong possibility, then Morris may be an option.

Morris has excelled in his time with Phoenix. In fact, last season he averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds per game, while not missing a single game, but now he wants out. Morris would be a welcome addition to the Miami Heat if the situation were to be right, since he is athletic and is a solid defender.

The Suns signed Tyson Chandler this offseason, who will cut into the minutes of Markieff.

The Phoenix Suns have been shopping Morris’s teammate, Eric Bledsoe, and while the team has pulled back from that of late, they did offer a deal to the New York Knicks before the NBA Draft. The Suns recently signed Brandon Knight to a $70 million contract, meaning Bledsoe’s role with the team will start to diminish next season.

Many teams should have interest in Markieff Morris, since he is a such a great player on the court, but the Miami Heat may pick him up before any team has the chance to approach the Suns.

Do you think the Miami Heat will make a transaction in order to acquire Markieff Morris? If not, what other moves do you see the Miami Heat making before the NBA season begins in October?
