Fight fans can watch an intriguing welterweight matchup live online Saturday night when undefeated Philadelphia fighter Danny Garcia moves up to 147 pounds for the first time to face one of the craftiest veterans in the game, Brooklyn’s Paulie Malignaggi, in the latest card from Premier Boxing Champions — the series that has brought big-time boxing back to “free” TV for the first time in nearly two decades.
The 27-year-old Garcia is being marketed by PBC as the next boxing icon for Puerto Rican fans, but he’ll be fighting on the flashy Malignaggi’s home turf on Saturday, when the fighters take to the ring at Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn, New York.

Saturday’s fight bears a strong resemblance to the most recent PBC matchup back on July 11, when unbeaten welterweight Keith Thurman faced Luis Collazo — another light-punching but quick and savvy veteran, who like Malignaggi hails from New York as well.
In that fight, while Thurman won when Collazo suffered a cut over his eye that led to a stoppage, the younger fighter struggled to impress and did little to advance his career as a TV-friendly, exciting boxer.
The goal for Garcia on Saturday is the same — score a dominant victory over 34-year-old Malignaggi, preferably by knockout.
But Malignaggi comes into the match at 33-6 with a resumé that includes experience against such top names as Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, and Adrien Broner. Though with only seven KOs on his ledger, the Brooklynite who doubles as a regular commentator on Showtime boxing broadcasts is no threat to stop Garcia, his fast hands and bag of veteran tricks that could make for an awkward evening for the younger fighter.
Malignaggi has also fought at 147 pounds in seven of his last eight fights, while Garcia has never fought at a weight higher than 142.5.
