WWE Rumors: Backstage Update On Status Of The Undertaker And Sting For ‘SummerSlam’

Huge rumors are flying around right now, and they are making a stir in WWE that is usually only felt around WrestleMania. Both The Undertaker and Sting are rumored to return and have a match at SummerSlam in August, but is it all just talk? Well, now it appears as if some things are confirmed and a backstage update even says when fans can expect to see them both back on TV.

WrestleZone is reporting that Undertaker will definitely be on Monday Night Raw next week, and that is set to be his official return. Some have thought he would show up on Sunday at Battleground, but looks like they will hold off one more night.

Undertaker’s return is to set up for a match at SummerSlam, but it isn’t clear as to who he will face. One name being thrown around is that of Brock Lesnar so a rematch from last year’s WrestleMania XXX, and the defeat of the streak being avenged.

If that match is going to happen, it would then make sense for Brock Lesnar to defeat Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at Battleground. One would think that Lesnar wouldn’t want to move onto someone else if he didn’t get his belt back.

Then again, the rumored “huge swerve” for the main event could have something to do with Undertaker without him ever actually showing up.

On another note, SummerSlam is looking to be even bigger as F4WOnline is indeed reporting that Sting, along with Undertaker, is a part of the advertising already cut for the August Pay-Per-View.

Sting is scheduled to have a match, but his opponent at SummerSlam is also unknown. It seems that there were plans in place for him to wrestle a match, but those original plans have already been changed. Now, it’s not known what his role will be, but it is expected to still be a match of some kind.

While many believed that Undertaker and Sting would face off at WrestleMania 32 in Texas next year, WWE won’t be going that direction most likely. As of now, they wouldn’t want Undertaker losing his possible retirement match and Sting going 0-2 in WWE.

Sting wrestling at SummerSlam means that he could get his first ever WWE victory and still wrestle Undertaker next year and the loss wouldn’t seem as bad. Then again, it’s always possible that Sting and Undertaker could face one another at the big event in August.

All that is known for sure at this time is that The Undertaker will return to WWE television on Monday Night Raw and Sting shortly afterward. They are both set for a match at SummerSlam, and more will be known about their opponents and their returns in a couple days once Battleground is over.
