Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Liverpool Are Willing To Meet Lyon’s Asking Price For Alexandre Lacazette

Despite a disappointing campaign last season, Liverpool’s transfer market has gone on reasonably well. With the signings of Roberto Firmino, James Milner, and Danny Ings completed, Liverpool have made improvements within the squad in place for the start of the Premier League season.

However, The Reds are still keen on signing a top class striker. Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has reportedly handed in a transfer request with clubs such as PSG and Bayern Munich along with Liverpool readying a bid for the popular French striker.

Financially, Liverpool is expected to match their rivals bid for Lacazette but could still lose out on the 24-year-old due to the lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield. In May, Lyon’s president, Jean Michel Aulas, made it clear that the club would do their best to hold on to Lacazette. He also went out of his way to dismiss Liverpool’s interest by denouncing their status.

“Liverpool have not called and what European cup are they playing in? They have neither the means nor the interest.”

It appears that Liverpool could still be open to signing Christian Benteke, but it is believed that Reds will not force the issue with the Belgian striker also reportedly ready to hand in a transfer request as Aston Villa remain resolute with their position on Benteke. The waiting game may result in Liverpool pushing on to sign Lacazette.

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling has finally reported to pre-season training after phoning in sick the past two days. Sterling is thought to be protesting against Liverpool’s reluctance of accepting Manchester City’s transfer bid, however, it is unlikely that the English international will send in a transfer request to force the move.

Liverpool’s former captain Steven Gerrard highlighted the difference between Raheem Sterling and the new Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson.

“Raheem and Jordan are at different ends of the scale. Jordan’s so professional, he’s a winner, a great lad. You don’t have to throw in illness, or refuse to go on tour. There are millions of Liverpool fans waiting to see Raheem pull on a Liverpool shirt. It looks very disappointing from where I’m sitting. The fans have shown him great support, they want him to stay and I believe that he should too.”

According to Sky Sports, representatives of Manchester City are ready to meet with Liverpool to discuss the transfer of Raheem Sterling. Liverpool’s valuation of the 20-year-old is in the region of £50 million.
