New York Knicks Rumors: All-Star Free Agent Wants To Sign With Knicks

New York Knicks rumors have former All-Star and free agent David West interested.

The Knicks have the attention of West and could make him one of the first free agents to sign during the NBA offseason. A report from CBS Sports on Saturday (June 27) states that West had this in mind when he decided to opt out of his contract with the Indiana Pacers.

While this move might seem odd on the surface given that West is already 34, it may seem like a brilliant move by Knicks team president Phil Jackson. The Knicks just selected Kristaps Porzingis, 19, with the No. 4 pick of the 2015 NBA Draft. He is a very raw talent at the power forward position, meaning he will need a lot of coaching and mentoring to succeed in the NBA. That is where West comes in, as he brings the type of experience that could help Porzingis develop.

Last season with the Indiana Pacers, David West played 28.7 minutes a night, averaging 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds. While he isn’t the same player that made the All-Star team several times, he still has a lot of talent on the basketball court. That could make him a really good role player for the Knicks, especially if the team can add some more talent during the NBA offseason.

As previously reported on the Inquisitr, Kevin Love opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers and LaMarcus Alrdidge told the Portland Trail Blazers he would not be returning. There are quite a few top-tier power forwards available in free agency, meaning the Knicks could actually find West to be a bargain. There were previous New York Knicks rumors this offseason that linked the team to players like Paul Millsap and DeMarre Carroll. Both would fit nicely in the triangle offense that Phil Jackson is trying to run, but so could David West.

While Knicks fans may have been hoping for big moves to take place during free agency, Jackson signing someone like West might be the perfect move. He doesn’t come with the flash and upside of a player like Kevin Love, but he certainly has found a lot of success in the NBA. When it comes to the New York Knicks rumors that have come up this offseason, this might actually be the one that has made the most sense. Especially when it comes to helping Kristaps Porzingis get better.
