However, supporters of the Golden State Warriors are able to take their places along the route starting at 5 a.m. on Friday.

The Warriors, of course, won the 2014/2015 NBA Championship when they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday night 105-97 at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena to win the best-of-seven NBA Finals 4-2.

With 67 wins against just 15 losses, Golden State also posted the best record in the NBA regular season as well.

The last time the Warriors won an NBA Championship, they were led by two NBA Hall of Famers, forwards Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes, who were inducted into the Springfield, Massachusetts, Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and 2012, respectively.

This year, league MVP Stephen Curry guided the Warriors to their championship, just the fourth in the history of the Warriors franchise dating all the way back to the team’s origins in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Warriors won the NBA Championship in the 1955-1956 season. The franchise also won one championship in the NBA’s predecessor league, the Basketball Association of America, in the first season of that league’s existence, 1946/1947. Two years later, the BAA merged with the rival National Basketball League to form what still exists today as the National Basketball Association.

The Warriors remained in Philadelphia until 1962, when they moved to the Bay Area and became known as the San Francisco Warriors, playing home games in the Cow Palace, an arena located in the San Francisco suburb of Daly City, and then in the San Francisco Civic Auditorium until 1967 — when the team moved across the bay into the home they’ve occupied ever since, the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena, today known as Oracle Arena.

With the 1971/1972 season, the team changed its name from “San Francisco” to “Golden State.” The long journey has finally brought the Warriors to their latest Championship, which they will mark with Friday’s parade.
