Twitter Responds to Google Acquisition Rumors
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has now responded to rumors that his company is in “late-stage negotiations” to be bought out by Google.
The rumors, posted at TechCrunch Thursday night and called into question hours later by BoomTown’s Kara Swisher, quickly sparked a frenzy of discussion across the Web. While Stone doesn’t directly address the TechCrunch report, he writes the following:
Sometimes We Talk
My inbox is flooded this morning with requests for a response to the latest Internet speculation about where Twitter is headed. It should come as no surprise that Twitter engages in discussions with other companies regularly and on a variety of subjects.
Our goal is to build a profitable, independent company and we’re just getting started. We’ve got just over thirty employees now and we’re working out of a loft in San Francisco’s SoMA neighborhood. By the way, we’re hiring talented people if you want to join us.
Interpret as you wish.

Hmm, like a lot of tweets – brief, and nothing really said.

If Google buys Twitter, I'll call “Game Over” on the whole 'net-company premise.
Google should know it's not worth any money, and could easily replicate the code if they wanted, in a much more stable manner. They wouldn't be buying the code.
They wouldn't be buying new users either, because all those people already are the “power users” of Google's products.
So what would they get? A bunch of worthless data in real-time that is of no value to them, and a company that can't even pay for its own servers without outside help.
