Bryan Price: Cincinnati Reds Manager’s Ejection Was Not To ‘Motivate’ Struggling Team

Before Saturday’s game between the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds had even begun, Reds manager Bryan Price was told by umpire Jim Reynolds to leave the field. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Price said the argument arose from how Friday’s matchup between his team and the Indians was called. Price mentioned that he knew an ejection would come if he brought it up on Saturday.

“I was given fair warning if I continued to debate [Friday’s] game, I’d be ejected.”

This ejection comes a little more than one month after Bryan Price went on an expletive-filled tirade against the media about a report on the absence of catcher Devin Mesoraco. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Price dropped a total of 77 F-bombs during the five-minute rant.

The Reds lost to the Indians 2-1, making it the seventh loss in a row for the team. Bryan Price had later told the Cincinnati Enquirer in a separate report that he didn’t plan on getting ejected to boost his team’s morale.

“I would not use an ejection to motivate a club. That’s just something I would not do. To think a manager is going inspire a club through an ejection is ludicrous.”

Price said he’s uncertain why his team is struggling, but he also mentioned that there were others who didn’t have a great beginning this season and have improved since then.

“You look at the Phillies. They were off to bad start, and then they started to play really good baseball for a team with lower expectations. Look at Cleveland now. They were nine or 10 games under .500. Now, they’re on a beautiful roll, expecting to win every day.”

While Bryan Price wasn’t present to manage his team, he did comment that the pitching was strong. The Reds were leading 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Indians tied the game. The Indians then scored again in the eighth.

“It’s unfortunate we weren’t able to take advantage of it and score a few runs and win a ballgame. It surely would make the mood around here a lot better.”

The Reds and Indians are facing each other again today for the final game in this series. At the time of this publication, the Indians are leading 4-1 in the seventh inning, according to MLB.com. And, according to people on Twitter, Bryan Price has not been ejected.
