Texas Insanity – Conspiracy Theories Taken Seriously In State Capitol

That’s right, Texas: Insanity.

There’s really no other word for it. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the rookie governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, actually activated the Texas National Guard to monitor the Navy SEAL and Green Beret “Jade Helm” training exercises in the state last week because he was worried that they were just a cover for a federal invasion of the state by President Obama.

You can’t make this stuff up. This is not a story from The Onion.

The idea that somehow, and for some reason, President Obama had decided that enough was enough in the Lone Star State, decided that an impending ISIS invasion from Mexico was a prime opportunity to impose martial law and was sending in the nation’s top military soldiers to stage a coup is only the result of a laundry list of conspiracies that have plagued Texas and its political leaders, and, what’s even more disturbing, the Governor of Texas is listening to them.

And believing them.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Walmart is supposedly at the heart of the Texas conspiracies. Yes, Walmart. Several Walmarts in the Southwestern United States closed down for repairs/remodeling, including some in Texas. Conspiracy theorists jumped on the shutdowns, saying that they were cover for guerilla warfare-type staging areas where the coming invasions would be launched from and where political prisoners could be housed in FEMA holding areas.

Here’s an excerpt from a conspiracy site called The Common Sense Show. (Notice the all-caps, indicating how important the message is.)

“DUE TO THE FACT THAT CLOSED WALMARTS STRETCH ACROSS MUCH OF THE SOUTHERN U.S., SPEAKS TO HOW WIDESPREAD THE FOLLOWING ATTACKS ARE GOING TO BE IN THIS ISIS VERSION OF THE TET OFFENSIVE.”

This was also accompanied by a map of the southwest, including Texas, indicating where the Walmarts were closed, and how the federal government feels about each state, (eg. hostile, permissive, etc.).

Oh, and did you see the mention of ISIS in the above statement? That’s the next link in the Texas conspiracy theory chain.

ISIS is setting up an invasion of the southwest on “soft targets” and are staging for the attack just outside of El Paso, Texas, according to the conspiracy theorists. When ISIS attacks, President Obama is supposedly going to impose martial law on the Southwestern United States via the Walmart command centers, and use the ISIS attacks as an excuse to imprison everyone with a political view he doesn’t like.

Again, you can’t make this stuff up.

But, people can make this stuff up.

Conspiracy theories aren’t original to Texas. They’ve been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

There was no moon landing (it was all shot on a soundstage and directed by Stanley Kubrick).

There’s a grand council that controls everything that happens in the world, (it’s either the Bilderberg Group or the Trilateral Commission depending on which level of paranoia you subscribe to).

Area 51 (a government facility in the Nevada desert used for experimentation on aliens and alien spacecrafts).

The J.F.K. assassination, (committed by the mafia, Castro and political right-wing opponents).

I’ll admit it, conspiracy theories are fun to think about. Sometimes they make an unthinkable or unknowable situation palatable. However, when real-life, real world political leaders start taking them seriously, well, then we get a scenario straight out of Dr. Strangelove that is so patently insane that it verges on hilarity.

What do you think? Has Texas Governor Abbott gone off the deep end? There are politicians on both sides of the aisle that clearly think he has. Are you from Texas – and if so, what’s your response to your state’s leader activating the national guard in defense of an attack by President Obama?
