WWE News: Paul Heyman Interrupts Roman Reigns On ESPN’s ‘SportsNation’ [Video]

Roman Reigns — who is the number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and will be taking on Brock Lesnar in the main event of this Sunday’s WrestleMania— appeared on ESPN’sSportsNation to promote this Sunday’s big event. Near the end of his appearance, SportsNation host and big WWE fan Michelle Beadle took Roman Reigns over to a punching bag that had Brock Lesnar’s face on it, and wanted to measure Reigns’ punching power. But before Reigns could hit the bag with his signature “Superman Punch,” Brock Lesnar’s on-screed advocate interrupted him, and noted that the idea of Reigns hitting a punching bag with Lesnar’s face on it was completely ridiculous because “punching bags don’t hit back, but Brock Lesnar does.”

When Heyman first appeared on-set, he shook Reigns’ hand and told him that he’s a big admirer of his work. During Heyman’s brief appearance, he didn’t say anything derogatory about Reigns, and he wished him the best of luck against his client on Sunday. While this wasn’t an angle that took place on WWE television, it was clearly setup by WWE, and it furthers the speculation that Paul Heyman is going to help Roman Reigns defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Roman Reigns’ meteoric rise to the main event spot of WrestleMania hasn’t been very well-received by the WWE fans, and they’ve booed him in nearly every arena since he won January’s Royal Rumble match. WWE’s original plan was for Reigns to be the company’s next big babyface, a la John Cena or “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. But the WWE fans resent Reigns’ inorganic push to the top, mainly because he’s taking the main event spot away from WWE fan-favorite Daniel Bryan, the former champion many people wanted to see face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Now that Brock Lesnar has officially re-signed with WWE, the company is fully expecting Roman Reigns to be heavily booed by the fans in attendance at WrestleMania, and as mentioned before, they’re likely planning on turning Roman Reigns heel to circumvent the issue and not completely ruin Reigns.

WWE usually likes give the fans a happy ending at WrestleMania, so there is some question if the Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match will close the show because WWE deciding to have Reigns win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event — no matter how he does it — won’t be a happy ending for the WWE fans. But — who knows — this year could be the exception to the rule.
