Iran could put Canadian site programmer to death ‘at any moment’

Meet Saeed Malekpour.

In any sane world the events awaiting for Saeed would never happen but then we aren’t living in a sane world and the death sentence, that could be carried out at any moment, wouldn’t exist.

So what has Saeed done you might ask?

Well Saeed Malekpour is a Canadian resident who designed and maintained a photo-sharing app and while visiting his ill father in Iran in October 2008 was arrested for:

“designing and moderating adult content websites,” “agitation against the regime,” and “insulting the sanctity of Islam.”

However because of the photo-sharing site that he designed and maintained allowed for users to upload and share adult content without his direct knowledge he was arrested and then allegedly tortured and imprisoned in solitary confinement for over a year in the Evin Prison in Tehran. Then in October 2010 the Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death.

With Saeed’s sentence now having been sent to the Circuit Court for Execution of Sentences he can now be executed at any time – just for designing a photo-sharing app while living in Canada.
