WWE News: Sheamus And Rey Mysterio To Return At The Royal Rumble?

It’s been several weeks since WWE fans have seen Sheamus on WWE television. Well, it looks like he’ll be returning as one of many surprise entrants in the 2015 Royal Rumble, much like he did this past year.

WWE could be preparing to turn Sheamus heel, as his character has become stale over the past couple of years. The idea is that he’ll make a surprise return at the Royal Rumble as a babyface, and begin the heel turn process the next night on RAW.

Former WWE play-by-play guy Jim Ross thinks that there’s more money in Sheamus as a heel, and is confused as to why WWE hasn’t turned him yet. Sheamus has been a heel before, and he was a very successful one. Since he’s turned babyface, he’s been an upper mid-card guy, that gets a decent reaction from the crowd. But it’s clear that the fans are bored with his character at this point, and that WWE needs to freshen him up.

With Roman Reigns getting pushed as the company’s new top babyface, and with Doplh Ziggler and Dean Ambrose coming on strong of late, there’s plenty of room for a Sheamus heel turn.

Another popular star who could be returning at the Royal Rumble is Rey Mysterio. There were reports earlier in the year that Mysterio wanted out of his WWE contract, and was trying to wrestle for multiple promotions down in Mexico. Well, now there are reports that Mysterio has signed an extension with WWE, and that he will likely be returning at the Royal Rumble.

WWE put Mysterio in the worst possible spot at last year’s Royal Rumble, having him enter as number 30 when the fans were wanting that to be Daniel Bryan’s spot. The fans reacted to viciously booing Mysterio, and cheering when he got thrown out of the match, as if it was Mysterio’s idea to enter the match in the spot that he did.

It’s unclear if Mysterio will be a full-time WWE superstar again. He’s had his fair share of injuries over the years, so if he returns, it could be a part-time, retirement run.

WWE would still like to have a Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara match, and it could be taking place at WrestleMania 31, which also could be Mysterio’s farewell match. WWE fans may not be as hot for the Mysterio vs. Sin Cara match as they once were, but, it’s better late than never.
