Michael Phelps has responded to the scandal surrounding his bong pic by saying he regrets what he has done.
In a statement, Phelps said
“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”
Experts are saying that the damage is done, and along with a serious risk to his swimming career, the photo could cost him tens of millions in endorsements.
Phelps could be banned from swimming for up to 4 years if he proves positive to a drugs test, although it’s not clear yet whether the photograph alone would be sufficient evidence for a ban.

I think everyone should just leave Michael Phelps some privacy. It is understandable behaviour for someone of his age. I wish President Obama would stand on the White House steps and put in a few good words for Michael Phelps.

this is stupid. first off marijuana was made illegal by NIXON hoping to reduce mexicans and hippies. it should be legal. acually we could greatly reduce debt if we made it legal and taxed it.
i heard a reporter say ” hes telling people that you can be a world class athlete and smoke pot” …. YES HE IS… BECAUSE YOU CAN!… because marijuana is not a drug. you can be great at something and still smoke pot. its not cocaine, meth, or pcp.
I heard people trying to link it to steriods, etc. and say its a substance… those substances are taken… TO MAKE YOU BETTER AT SPORTS… they are illegally giving themselves advantages..POT DOES NOT DO THAT!!! he was having fun with frineds and hit a bong, prolly crashed out on a couch and ate some chocolate ice cream.. get over it.

This entire thing is ridiculous. Pot is no worse than beer, and truth be told , probably less harmful. I understand the concern for children seeing this sort of thing, but it's far worse to see a drunk parent . My biggest issue is that the people that are so outraged by this are probably “old hippies” that did the same thing in the '60s and 70s. What hipocracy.
