WWE: Vince McMahon Allows Attitude Era To Make A Comeback On The WWE Network

The WWE Attitude Era is sorely missed by some fans in the WWE Universe. Vince McMahon apparently felt that fans needed a Christmas present, so now the WWE Network will be carrying “12 Days Of Attitude” come this Sunday.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, there are serious consequences to not following the PG-era rules demanded by Vince McMahon. For example, Chris Jericho relates that in 2008, Dave Batista thought it would be a good idea to cut himself in order to fake the bleeding from a bad hit. In response, McMahon fined Batista a staggering $100,000, a “harsh” moment that made Batista realized the Attitude Era was gone and buried.

“[Vince McMahon] starts passing out fines, so my fine was $100,000. My heart dropped. I thought it would be like $25,000. When he said $100,000, I was just heartbroken. I literally think that he sucked the life out of me that day. I think that’s the day that I knew things were never going to be the same.”

As everyone knows, Vince McMahon does what is best for business, and in this case, the WWE officially let out a press release letting fans know they would be bringing the Attitude Era back, if only temporarily.

“Beginning this Sunday, December 21, ’12 Days of Attitude’ will bring new video-on-demand content to WWE Network. Each day, WWE Network subscribers will be able to unlock new programming in their video-on-demand library from the Attitude Era. Full episodes of Monday Night Raw, SmackDown and Heat will be among content available. Also included are memorable moments from the Attitude Era such as training vignettes of Vince and Shane McMahon and the interview in which The Rock and Mankind discuss The Undertaker and Big Show being buried alive.”

To this day, the WWE Network is still missing a large amount of content from the Attitude Era. It’s possible management is testing fans to see exactly how much interest the Attitude Era really generates, and whether it’s worth it pull off some edgier PG-13 style antics in the ring. After all, Vince McMahon and Triple H know the WWE Network subscriber numbers are nowhere near where they need to be, so they must be scrambling to figure out ways to make fans sign up.

But not everyone thinks the WWE Attitude Era needs another comeback on live television. When fans think of the Attitude Era, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin typically comes to mind first, and even he thinks a comeback is unnecessary.

“I’m not saying that you’ve got to go back to the Attitude Era. I ain’t saying that. I’m not saying you have to say one cuss word. It’s about believability and telling the story in the ring. It just needs to be wrestling. It can be PG as hell.”

Even WWE superstar Edge claims fans need to take off their “rose colored glassed” in regards to the WWE Attitude Era.

“I do think what’s been good, people are always talking about the Attitude Era, and all of this and all of that, but if you watch back, sometimes the matches weren’t that great because we had 2 minutes,” he explained. “It’s not possible to have a good wrestling match in 2 minutes, you can’t tell a story, you can tell a haiku. Since the PG era, I know when I was in matches, I had half an hour sometimes, 20 minutes, there I can tell a story. The Attitude Era was a lot about the hijinks backstage, and the matches kind of got forgotten about. It’s looked at with rose colored glasses because the ratings were good, and it was working for obvious reasons, but to me those obvious reasons were characters like Stone Cold, who would then get in and have a long match at a PPV.”

Do you think the WWE Network should add new Attitude Era-style exclusive content to the WWE Network?
