WWE: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin Reveals What Makes The WWE Fake, And Why That’s Okay

While “Stone Cold” Steve Austin admits the WWE is fake, he defends the performances on Monday Night RAW and WWE SmackDown as being legitimate action stunts as part of Vince McMahon’s “sports entertainment” empire. Of course, he does this by comparing pro wrestling to Leonardo DiCaprio, which might raise any fan’s eyebrows high enough to match The Rock.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, wrestling fans might be slightly surprised to hear that Steve Austin really loves Donald Trump, and now it’s believed “the Donald” may be running for the office of U.S. President in 2016.

Things have changed a lot within pro wrestling over the years. When “Stone Cold” Steve Austin began his career, the entire industry still did not want to admit that matches were staged even though many fans were in the know. Even Austin himself completed his entire wrestling training without first realizing that all of his future matches would have a pre-determined winner based upon what management felt was best for the business. Austin also admits that when he was a rookie, he had no clue he would eventually be called on to fake injuries in order to enhance the drama in the ring.

“If you’d have told me that I’d be doing this back in 1990 when I won rookie of the year, I’d have said you were full of crap,” Austin tells Business Insider. “That’s how far things have changed.”

What Steven Austin is referring to is the type of tricks he would use to create the illusion of taking an actual beating. For example, in a match with Dwayne Johnson, Austin drew the attention of the cameras away from The Rock so he could open a cut on his own forehead with a razor blade. This was done so The Rock appeared to be bleeding after being hit by a metal bell by Austin.

But “Stone Cold” Steve Austin believes that knowing the tricks used to create the illusion of the suspension of disbelief should not take away from the action seen on screen.

“When you watch Leonardo DiCaprio or Daniel Day-Lewis, or somebody in a badass action movie, you know you’re watching a movie and you want to suspend your disbelief. The same thing still is true with pro wrestling or sports entertainment,” he says. “I was just able to lift up the veil a little bit and let you see what was going through my head when these matches were going on.”

Of course, it’s not just the wrestling matches that are scripted. Although WWE Total Divas was billed as a reality TV show that gives real insights into the private lives of the wrestlers, it eventually came out that even Total Divas is fake.

What do you think about Steve Austin’s revelations about the tricks of the trade of the WWE?
