Never Fight Tangled Christmas Lights Again By Going Wireless

It seems as though Christmas lights have a mind of their own. No matter how careful you are when you pack them away at the end of the holiday season, you know that the next season will only offer you a misery of tangled Christmas lights.

Not only is the tangle of Christmas lights a joy only a masochist could appreciate, but often the lights which worked perfectly last year only work on one-half of the string or not at all.

Then there is the problem of making sure your lights are not going to catch your tree and home on fire, especially if you’re still using vintage bulbs.

Still using these? Probably not the best idea if you want to avoid a real light show (a fire).

A person could go on and on about the issues Christmas lights give millions of people every year, but people may no longer have to suffer to enjoy the beauty Christmas lights bring to the holidays.

The future of wireless and customizable Christmas lights may not be readily available for this year’s holiday season, but it may be right around the corner.

According to Digital Trends, Aura is a type of wireless Christmas bulb or ornament which uses power from Aura’s Power Ring. The Power Ring snaps onto your tree or hides underneath your tree skirt, and you plug it into your wall.

This dynamic ring creates a magnetic field which passes energy to any receiver inside of the ring. Each light has one of these receivers, so they will light up instantaneously when placed on the Christmas tree. The ring can power up to 100 Christmas light bulbs.

Owners of the Aura Christmas lights will be able to control the lights, which utilize LED technology, via an app. Changing schedules, using timers, and turning all the lights on and off can be done from the free app.

Because LED lights never need to be changed, the bulbs will last at full brightness for about 20 years, according to Aura’s Kickstarter website. The bulbs are fully sealed so they can never be opened, and they never need to be charged or need batteries.

Three different versions of bulbs, including clear, frosted, and cracked, will be available for consumers. White and colored versions of the bulbs are expected as well, but for now the lights are only in prototype stages.

Those who donate and order through the Kickstarter campaign will save about $70 off the retail price of the Christmas lights, but the lights most likely won’t be available until October 2015.
