Head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs Herm Edwards has been fired after leading the team to its worst two year span in team history.

Edwards three year regular season record is 15-33, and 6-26 for the last two seasons.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said in a statement that “this was not an easy decision. Herm is an outstanding football coach and a man of integrity. We appreciate his leadership over the past three seasons, and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Edwards said he respected “the tough decision that was made to move in a new direction.”

Herm had one year left on his four year, $22 million contract.
