Justin Bieber Wins Best Male At 2014 MTV EMAs, Accepts Award On CCTV

Justin Bieber triumphed by winning the Best Male award for the fifth time at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMAs) on Sunday.

It’s a undeniably big win for the 20-year-old star as Bieber beat off strong competition from other contenders: Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Eminem, and Justin Timberlake.

The “Baby” singer’s absence from the Nicki Minaj-hosted awards show at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, England, provided an opportunity to bring the funny when he delivered his acceptance speech via a CCTV-captured video message.

A Vine clip shows Bieber standing in the doorway of a store, possibly in New Jersey as the star was spotted at a church service in Montclair earlier on Sunday.

During his acceptance, the Biebs was interrupted by a female shopper entering the outlet, which made for further comedy.

“Oh. What’s up?” a clearly delighted Justin began, before turning around suddenly as a woman behind him walked into the store.

Addressing the woman, the Canadian asked, “How are you doing?” then made a sound suggesting he was cold. Incidentally, the word “cold” was written on the black sweatshirt he wore. The singer also sported a turquoise beanie.

Bieber continued, saying, “I just won Best Male at the EMAs, so I just wanted to say thank you to all my fans out there. And er… I’m at CVS and I’m gonna go get some fudgesicles,” referring to ice-cream as he pointed to his left and raced out of shot.

Shortly after Bieber’s win was announced, the singer took to Twitter to thank the Beliebers who came through for him.

“Just won Best Male at the #EMAs. Thank you all so much. Big things coming. Love you,” he wrote, including a link to the video seen above at the Fahlo platform.

In a follow-up message, he urged, “Be kind to one another. Be great. Happy Sunday.)”

Justin first won the Best Male trophy at the MTV EMAs in 2010, as his manager Scooter Braun noted in a congratulatory tweet.

The rest of Team Bieber followed.

The good news for Braun’s camp continued.

Octave-scaling Ariana Grande, who was the first performer on the night (“Break Free” and “Problem”), brought home two wins — Best Female and Best Song for “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea.

And the rest of the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards?

Minaj changed her outrageous fashion creations at least eight times as she hosted and performed. At one point, taking to the stage to sing a scantily-clad version of “Anaconda” and “Super Bass.” She also won won the Best Hip Hop award.

Some viewers on Twitter said the rapper only won because Eminem, Azalea, Drake, and Kanye West didn’t show.

An absent Katy Perry, who is currently touring in Australia and led nominations with seven nods, took home a Best Video for “Dark Horse ft. Juicy J” and Best Look.

One Direction won Biggest Fans, Best Pop, and Best Live. 5 Seconds of Summer won the Best New Act, Linkin Park won Best Rock act, and rocker Ozzy Osbourne was given the Global Icon award.

Apart from a few F-bombs from Minaj, who arrived to the stage to start the show flying on wires wearing a silver ruffled dress with monster train and “bedazzled” cleavage-exposing bra, the event whizzed by without controversy.

Performances included Ed Sheeran, U2, Alicia Keys, Kiesza, Enrique Iglesias, Nick Jonas and more.

Meanwhile, a few hours after the EMAs, Justin attended a church service in New York with pals Hailey Baldwin and Kendall Jenner.

Perhaps as thanks for his Best Male win at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards?
