Dunkin Donuts’ ‘Croissant Donuts’ Review Roundup: It Is What Everyone Suspected?

It’s finally here. Dunkin Donuts just delivered their most awaited donut in a long while. The Dunkin Croissant Donut has hit the shelves, a year after the “Cronut” craze hit Brooklyn. The Inquisitr reported on the infamous Cronut, and the impending release of the Croissant Donut.

“This all comes as Dunkin Donuts reported disappointing earnings in a recent report, according to Business Week. Dunkin Donuts argues it is not a “cronut,” but croissant donut that has been around for decades. In fact, Dunkin themselves made a “New York Pie” donut last year that is distributed throughout Korea.”

Though, the general release was today, some have had a chance to try the new sweet treat from Dunkin a few days earlier. Surprisingly though, there has not been many reviews penned, or typed. However, the first reviews are in and verdicts are being reached.

The Reaction:

According to the U.K’s Daily Mail, it is a fancy donut, nothing more.

“The croissant-donuts tasted like a fancy glazed donut… just with a few more doughy layers. Don’t get me wrong though, They were delicious and I would like to eat seven of them in one sitting. “

Vocativ staff members had mixed feelings about the new donut. Some said it was merely “like any other donut”. Others said it was “too chewy”. Other still, gave it “two thumbs up.” One of their staffers came to an interesting analysis.

“It tastes more like Krispy Kreme than Dunkin’ Donuts.”

Though The Daily Mail did not comment much on the “Cronut” comparison, Vocativ declared with a loud voice that it was not in fact a Cronut.

As for my own experience, let me dramatize.

It was half past six that I arrived for the Dunkin Donuts’ much awaited “Croissant Donut.” Alas, it was not yet to be. I was alerted that the donut needed time to thaw, but directly after, the time in the oven was merely a minute. Although, despite the small town location, three people had been looking for them prior to myself.

A little over a half hour later, all the waiting paid off. I returned to an entire unnamed section, next to the “regular” croissants, of Dunkin Donut’s “Croissant Donut.” My first thoughts is that it tears like a croissant, which is not easily done, and looks like a huge French Cruller.

As far as the taste? It reminds one of something you would get at a fair or carnival. Sweet and covered in glaze, then it fades to be a little buttery and croissant-like. A little more like Krispy Kreme’s glazed, as Dunkin Donuts has been slacking over the years. So, for $2.49 plus tax, you get this in its fancy box. Yes. The Croissant Donut gets its own box.

Once you opened the fancy box(mine did not close),you saw the surprisingly, heavily glazed donut at the top of the page. Of course, you probably want to see it halved, so look below.

The Verdict:

The general tone seems that it is quite good. It is like a mad scientist concoction of a French Cruller donut, Krispy Kreme Glazed donut and a Croissant. If you can enter with an open mind, you might have a new Dunkin favorite. The haters seem to have a grudge, based on a love for the “Cronut.” For those of us who have not had one of those, there is no reason not to love the Croissant Donut.
