Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gaal Pleads For ‘Belief’ After Another Terrible Result

Manchester United’s manager, Louis Van Gaal, has pleaded with fans to have “belief” in his ability to turn around the fortunes of the club.

This came after the Red Devils suffered another poor result against Burnley on Saturday. United could only draw with the newly-promoted side, which comes after they lost their opening encounter of the season against Swansea, drew with Sunderland and then embarrassingly lost to MK Dons in the League Cup.

All of this means that Van Gaal is still yet to taste victory as United manger. Despite this diabolical start, the Dutch manager insists that he saw progress in their performance, but insisted that “United have to win.”

“We are certainly not at the standard yet but we shall have to wait and keep believing it will happen,” Van Gaal declared after his team’s match at Turf Moor. “We will have to see where we are in a month or so.”

Van Gaal didn’t have a problem picking out the alleged poor performance of Angel Di Maria too. The Argentinian winger signed for United earlier this weekend for a club record fee of $100 million, and even though the general consensus amongst fans was that he performed quite well against Burnley, Van Gaal admitted he hadn’t reached the level that he was at with Real Madrid last season.

“Di Maria did not look like the world-class player we have seen either, but you cannot expect that straightaway,” he noted. “He has to adapt to a new league, and the team needs time to adapt to his style of playing.”

Van Gaal did go on to claim that United’s defense had shown an improvement though, explaining, “At least we are not giving many chances away. Maybe two in the first half and two in the second, that is all.”

However, he also admitted that two points from the first three Premier League games of the season is a disappointing return, and that he expected to have made a better start to the campaign.

“Two points from nine is disappointing,” he declared. “I can see some progress, but Manchester United have to win.”

Van Gaal also confirmed that United were on the brink of signing Daley Blind from Ajax, and if he arrives at Old Trafford, he will join Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, and Marcos Rojo as new recruits at the club this summer.
