Who Is Floyd Mayweather’s Next Opponent?

If you’re waiting to see the epic fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer because that fight won’t happen this year.

There are two good reasons why it won’t happen this year. First of all, Mayweather already has two potential opponents lined up to take the champion on; Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto.

Second is because Manny Pacquiao recently signed a contract with Top Rank that will last until Dec. 31st of 2016, and because of that, Mayweather said he wouldn’t fight Pacquiao as long as he is working with Top Rank. However, there is still hope that the fight will happen eventually.

Prince Amir Shapifour says he will make the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happen in Dubai. As a fight promoter, the Prince believes he has the resources and connections to make it happen. Though for now, we’ll just have to settle for Mayweather taking on Amir Khan or Miguel Cotto in his next fight.

If Floyd Mayweather were to fight Amir Khan, it wouldn’t be until after September because that’s when Khan will be ready to take on another fight. In a statement made to Sky Sports, Khan said:

“The Fight between me and Floyd Mayweather is going to happen one day. As long as I keep winning and putting on great performances, it is definitely going to happen. But I cannot do September because of Ramadan. The next time it could happen is in May. I can fight then so it could be Floyd’s next fight after September.”

Khan Continues to say:

“I am looking at the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather. They are big names and that is where I belong fighting the top guys. There are talks about Manny Pacquiao happening in the future-maybe next. So I have left my team, Al Haymon and my team Khan promotions to do everything.”

Next is Miguel Cotto, who is seeking a rematch for his loss in 2012. After Cotto’s big win against Sergio Martinez, trainer Freddie Roach told Daily Mail:

” I was confident Miguel was going to beat Martinez and of course it pleases me that he’s made me look good while doing it. The way Manny does. The new Cotto, with his improved movement, would be too mobile for Floyd now and I believe he knock him out.”

Floyd Mayweather definitely has some options right now, but it will be unlikely to see him lose anytime soon. Who would you like to see Floyd fight next?
