Miss USA 2014: Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez Talks Self Defense On The Road To Miss Universe

Miss USA 2014 has been crowned with Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez becoming the 63rd winner of the famous beauty pageant. She will be representing the United States for Miss Universe 2014.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, if you like to see action at a beauty pageant, then you will be happy to hear that Sandra Bullock is considering doing a Miss Congeniality TV show. Earlier this past month, Miss South Texas declared that she had lost 100 pounds as revenge against bullies who criticized her weight.

The 24-year-old Nia Sanchez was born and raised in Sacramento, California until her family began moving around at age seven, with her family settling down into Washington state. But how did she end up as Miss Nevada, you may ask? After she finished high school Nia became a nanny in Europe and was able to travel to Austria, Switzerland, and parts of the Middle East. She also managed to travel to Mexico as part of mission trips. Once she became a full time model she traveled the world, visiting Thailand and the Great Wall of China. Sanchez was even chosen by Disney out of thousands of other models to represent a face character for Hong Kong Disney.

Nia’s path toward becoming Miss USA 2014 started when she saw a close friend, Kristen Dalton, win the crown for Miss USA back in 2009. From there Sanchez decided to enter into the world of the beauty pageant queen and she made Las Vegas, Nevada her hometown. She has competed in both the United States and in foreign nations with great success, but now she has a shot at becoming Miss Universe 2014.

When Nia Sanchez won the Miss USA 2014 contest she was wearing a red fishtail gown, but the question she was asked by judge Rumer Willis was not exactly fit for a ball. Willis pointed out the statistic which says that 19 percent of female undergraduate college students are victims of sexual assault and asked Nia about the importance of women being able to defend themselves. The reason this was asked is because Sanchez is a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo. Nia said that awareness of the problem was important in addition to women needing to learn how to defend themselves.

What do you think about Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez? What do you think about the question that she was asked to respond to in order to win?
