Lizette Salas Tweets, Instagrams Celebration After LPGA Victory

Yesterday was a memorable day for golfer Lizette Salas. Earning her first victory since she joined the LPGA in 2011, Salas completed the course at Kingsmill 13 under par for the tournament, four strokes ahead of the three women tied for second, Yani Tseng, Lexi Thompson and Sarah Jane Smith.

The LA Times reports that the 24-year old professional golfer has managed a number of impressive finishes in previous tournaments, but this is her first win as a professional player. Yet, according to the Times, Salas hardly seemed challenged as she took a three stroke lead at the start of the final round and continued to lengthen it with birdies on the third and fifth holes.

Though a few bogies and one three-putt on a par three put her at even-par for the final round on the Kingsmill Resort’s River Course, Salas was 13-under for the tournament, with a final four round score of 271.

The PJ Star reports that Lizette was showered with champagne, wine, and water by other golfers in the tournament as she covered her face and looked toward the sky.

Later, on Twitter and Instagram, Salas noted that in the moment before her co-competitors joined her celebration, she’d been quietly thanking ‘the man upstairs’ for his role in bringing her victory, giving him credit not only for the win, but for the skills and positive character traits that brought her there.

Salas further shared her celebration and her post-win feelings with her social media followers and friends, tweeting about celebratory Oreo shakes and banana splits, as well as dedicating her win to her father. Lizette also took a moment to tweet appreciation to Kingsmill Resort and Spa for hosting the event, and to Kingsmill and all the sponsors, volunteers, and fans for making it great.

Still, it’s clear this morning that Salas is ready to head home as she tweeted her anxiousness to return to her ‘little man,’ along with photos and the hashtag ‘no place like home.’

Lizette Salas may be clicking her metaphorical ruby slippers this morning, but after this weekend’s win, there’s no doubt her fans will be ready to see her back on the greens.
