Nina Davuluri: Miss America 2014 Prom Request Has Patrick Farves Joking [Video]

Nina Davuluri, or Miss America 2014, has asked that Patrick Farves not be suspended for his Miss America prom request in front of the whole school, and Twitter and social media users in general are joining the outcry. But the high schooler is simply saying it was a joke that he could not resist.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, when Nina Davuluri won as Miss America 2014, some Twitter users responded with racist tweets due to her Indian descent. The incident even had George Takei riding to her defense on Twitter. Of course, Davuluri also has a reputation as a potty mouth and one video allegedly caught her dropping f-bombs and racist jokes herself.

On the Miss America Organization’s website, Davuluri posted on Saturday:

“On Thursday, a student invited me to prom and gave me a flower while I was giving a presentation in York, Pennsylvania. I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule. I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision.

“Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America. I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I’m inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting through my travels.”

Of course, Patrick Farves did not expect to create all this controversy with his Miss America prom invite. Speaking to Good Morning America, he revealed the whole thing started out as a joke. The reason he was suspended is because Central York High School had learned of his plans beforehand and had warned him not to invite Miss Davuluri to the prom. When he went ahead and did it anyway the school officials felt “disrespected,” which Farves says he understands, yet at the same time he wanted to keep his reputation as a prankster:

“This whole thing has just been insane. I didn’t expect any of this…. This is kind of what I do. I’m kind of known for this type of stuff.”

Farves’ mother also apparently punished the boy for disobeying the school but she isn’t taking it too seriously:

“She knew it wasn’t out of character for me to do something like that. At the same time…I think it’s amusing to her with all this media attention.”

Of course, now that Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri is no longer an option, what will Patrick do for the prom as a backup plan?

“I actually don’t have one. I don’t know if I want to ask someone or if with all the attention if a girl will ask me.”
