Richard Dawkins Tweets Risque Poem, Sets Twitter Nerds Abuzz

Richard Dawkins – evolutionary biologist, outspoken atheist, and all-around serious guy – surprised Twitter Wednesday morning when he tweeted to his 900,000 followers a rather risque poem inspired by genetics and pure libido.

Dawkin’s tweet received different reactions from Twitter geeks who follow the famous scientist. User @drkeithalbow just couldn’t believe what she was seeing:

@yolo_goat was able to reaffirm his theistic beliefs thanks to Richard Dawkins’ poetic prowess:

Richard Dawkins might be one of the world’s most popular science communicators but according to the Telegraph, he is also quite fond of the humanities – including arts and poetry. The biologist particularly likes Anglican aesthetics and wouldn’t mind entering an Anglican church to appreciate its beauty.

An appreciator of literature, Richard Dawkins confessed in an article for The Guardian that he considers the King James Bible a great literary work. He even particularly called the book of Ecclesiastes “one of the glories of English literature”.

That is why his “sexy” poem tweet didn’t come as a shock to most people who closely follow his life and teachings.

Dawkins has authored 13 books, 12 of which concern evolutionary biology. The other one, “The God Delusion“, primarily provides fiery criticism of the religious faiths and is the most famous (or infamous) book he has written so far.

Reception to, even within the scientific community, has always been mixed. While scientists like Neuroscientist Sam Harris and physicist Lawrence Krauss have said positive statements about Richard Dawkins over the years, other scientists aren’t too fond of the biologist. Nobel Prize winning physicist Peter Higgs once called Dawkins a “fundamentalist” atheist.

Richard Dawkins routinely shakes the political world as well with his no-holding-back statements about world leaders. In a recent Inquisitr article, Dawkins told Bill Maher that he was certain President Obama is an atheist.

Despite people’s perception of the biologist, his almost 1 million-strong twitter followers serve as evidence of the extreme popularity of Richard Dawkins among atheists and agnostics. And although the God vs. atheism debate can be so terribly serious at times, Richard Dawkins himself find ways to break the ice and amuse people, believers or not, with his literary pursuits.
