Pending Sign of the Twitter Apocalypse: It’s Being Talked About By Internet Marketers

StumbleUpon Digg Reddit Mixx del.icio.us MySpace Fark Facebook TwitThis Propeller Wikio Yahoo! Buzz

Twitter has had its fair share of ups and mostly downs lately, but if you think Twitter had its problems now, wait until every second person on Twitter is trying to sell you an ebook, because the internet marketers have discovered Twitter.

This email from well known ebook salesman John Reese:

If you haven’t yet created a Twitter account you’re really missing out.

This service has exploded in growth in the past few months and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. There are now MILLIONS of users and it’s becoming mainstream.

I’ve been running some interesting tests and I’m already seeing some great traffic results — far greater than the traffic from Facebook or any other “Web 2.0″ service.

Facebook and the others certainly have their place, but Twitter is more powerful. At first I didn’t really “get it” but now I do and my traffic stats don’t lie. IT WORKS.

As a communications tool, Twitter is probably only 2nd to Email right now. It’s a great way to network with people as well as to drive visitors to any of your sites, blog posts, etc.

BUT DON’T WAIT…

Create a Twitter account NOW and start ‘following’ people you want. Others will eventually follow you in
return. Observe how others post and you’ll quickly learn the culture, etiquette, and uses for Twitter.

It’s not rocket science. In fact, it’s a lot of fun.

You really need to start today because the sooner you start the sooner your followers list will start growing and more people will see your posts — which will then virally grow from there.

*******VERY IMPORTANT********

MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW ME!

(I’m actively posting all the time.)

Create an account then go here: http://twitter.com/johnreese

Click the “Follow” link that shows under my photo.

That’s it. Everytime I post you’ll see it in your main “timeline” area.

* After you click to “Follow” me look at the right-hand side of my profile page. Click the blue “Followers” link and you can see all the people currently following my posts. Follow some of these other marketers so you can get involved.

Twitter is extremely VIRAL. When you make posts (called “tweets”) they can be exposed to all the friends (followers) of others. Then they can choose to follow you.

I think Twitter is going to really evolve into a “must use” marketing tool. It’s a great way to announce you’ve just made a new blog post, released a new product, or anything else you’re up to.

I’m already seeing 400+ visitors each time I make a tweet that I’ve made a new blog post.

So trust me, this is no flash in the pan. In fact, this may be one of the most powerful marketing
tools ever — it just depends how it evolves.

But so far you’d be crazy not to use it. It’s producing great results.

Take 2 minutes to create an account — heck you’ll want to do it now so you can at least get your name before someone else takes it. Or your company or product name, etc.

Just go to http://www.Twitter.com

Then visit my page at:
http://twitter.com/johnreese

And click “Follow” that is displayed under my photo.

(That’s all there is to it.)

See you on Twitter!

* You’ll definitely want to be following me on Twitter because I’m going to be doing some really cool stuff with it soon.

Yours For Online Profits,

John Reese

  • that guy is gross.
  • my FAVORITE part is how HE boldly EMPHASIZES "marketing terms" to SHOW how POWERFUL he really is.

    It's QUITE (not) impressive.

    What a douche.
  • Oh you mean you have never leveraged one profile (say a blog) to leverage another (Twitter or FriendFeed)?

How many "Social Media Marketers" (the ones you might call friends) actually measure the effect of their Twitter participation - actually track clicks?
  • Lots of them. Louis Gray talks about one all the time. Statsbot, I think his name is? But just about anyone with a stats program installed on their blog domain, I imagine, at least looks at the referrer logs.

    That stinks. :(
  • ah, man. just got barf on one of my favorite shirts...
  • Not Twitter Apocalypse but ordinary commercial process :).
  • Wow, this definitely an extreme example. But this shows that Twitter is really going mainstream. The only thing we are left to do is make sure that we follow only the right people not to be prompted to buy a book in every second tweet :)

  • veritably, "chicaweb" we really don't choose. We have the opportunity to block, but what a stinkin' inconvenience. I get enough bacn. Invitation to "friendship" for one's personal, selfish gain is no friendship at all. Don't estimate you are doing us any favors by asking for friendship good so you can sell us your stuff. If we thirst your wares, we'll google it or ask a friend – a true friend – for a recommendation. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with selling products on the information superhighway, or using the Internet for purchasing, but following twitter folks just to get them to follow back so you sell products defeats the whole purpose of "friending." Go back to your SEOP, please. kthxbai.
  • Thanks for the attempt at the personal attack and trying to somewhat smear my reputation as an Internet Marketing educator. I have posted a response on my blog:

  • Actually John, the post was a go at Twitter, but now you're claiming to have created Web 2.0 it will very quickly become about you :-) BTW: where's the smear? I said Internet marketers have discovered Twitter? is that a smear? you allegedly don't sell ebooks, my bad, but you certainly sell a lot of hot air and promises... point out EXACTLY how I've smeared you? Or did you not read the ebook about reading a post first before crying like a 2 year old :-)

    ...and I might add!!!

Internet Marketers tend to follow other Internet Marketers, we are a community with the same right to be connected as everyone else. We understand or will quickly learn that peeps will simply turn you off if you constantly spam them "buy my eBook" shortened URLs. Twitter is undoubtedly the easiest way to stay connected, network, announce what your doing, and get your blog posts read.

I want to follow John Reese
I want to know what he is working on today
I want to know when he has updated his blog

If YOU DON'T - just turn him off!
(same applies to any of his subscribers that stumble into Twitter 'like an Amway rep at a funeral'. Turn them off and they will magical disappear from view).

The title of this blog has - quite obviously - been constructed to ride on his back.
Your 10% vs John's 90% - and what value did you add?

The beauty of twitter is that you choose who you want to follow and who follows you. It is the essence of Web 2.0, you have a say. It is not telemarketing. Let me explain: If you don't like what somebody you are following is saying, stop following them. If any of your followers misbehaves, block them. Simple as that.

BTW, I thoroughly enjoy John Reese's posts, I think he is one of the best internet marketing people around and I get great recommendations from him. You should try listening, you may learn one thing or two.
