Favorite Car Color Is No Longer Silver, It’s . . .

For more than ten years, silver has held the acclaim of being the world’s favorite car color. But that fact has now changed…

The first question is, how does anyone actually know what the world’s favorite car color is? Are surveys taken to ask people which color car they like best? Of course not!

The answer to this question is simple. PPG Industries are the world’s biggest supplier of paint to the automotive market. They produce stats that reveal which color paint is the most popular.

They said that in 2013, 25 percent of the paint it supplied to car manufactures was white which reflects an increase of 3 percent over last year. Black and silver took joint second place with 18 percent each.

The second question is, which countries still say silver is their favorite color car, despite the PPG statistics? Well that’s easy; in South America, silver is by far the most popular color for cars, while Europe and North America prefer white.

White is widely considered to be a high-tech color, mainly since Apple Inc. made white their house-color. Jane Harrington from PPG said that her team decides on color trends according to what’s hot in fashion and building colors. She said the car industry can expect colors like teal and reddish orange on cars in the near future.

Bright colors like taxi yellow are also gaining popularity these days, especially since the release of the Kia Soul. Colors anticipated for 2016 include pink-tinged red and rich dark grey, complimented by greenish headlights.

Harrington said about the wild new colors being introduced into the car industry: “They think about the vehicle and how that color will translate. That color, sparkle and finish helps define the car’s character.”
