A Jets fan, who as yet has still not been identified, punched a woman in the face after the Jets beat the New England Patriots 30-27 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The shocking incident was caught on video as you can see for yourself above.
According to the person who filmed the fan punching the woman, the fight started back in the stands between the woman who was punched and another woman. The cameraman spoke to reporters about the incident, saying the fight: “moved out to where I shot the video. Beer was thrown and clothing over the balcony. Security went after the guy. Didn’t see what happened after that.”
The man who was big in build by any standards is clearly very agitated as he takes the swing at the woman who was much smaller than him. She can be seen wiping her nose as if playing tough after she was hit.
At the moment, it’s not clear what led up to the brawl, but some say it may have to do with a new rule which helped the Jets secure their victory against the Pats. In the new rule, a player may not push a teammate into the opposition’s formation.
The rule was tested during the game when Chris Jones from the Patriots shoved teammate Will Svitek forward to try and block a kick. Jones was penalized for this infringement and the Jets obtained a kick 15 yards closer to the touchline.
A spokesperson for the Jets released a statement about the fan punching the woman. It said: “We are aware of the situation, and we do not tolerate that behavior. Parties involved were detained, and this matter is now in the hands of the New Jersey State Police.”
It remains to be seen what the outcome of the police investigation will be as they try to ascertain the circumstances which led up to the man punching the woman.
