Hell in a Cell was arguably the most overrated pay-per-view the WWE put on in 2016. It was marketed as a triple main event with all three of those matches being inside a Hell in a Cell. Rusev and Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins, as well as Charlotte and Sasha Banks, held those responsibilities tightly. It was an argument all week from the WWE Universe as far as who the last match of the night would be. Due to the WWE stars inside the match, it was an indictment on Owens that the women capped off the evening.
Reason being, if John Cena, Triple H, Brock Lesnar or the Rock were WWE Universal champions, the women would not have been on last at Hell in a Cell. Instead, Owens and Rollins weren’t generating enough interest, so Triple H and Vince McMahon went with Charlotte and Banks instead. To make things even clearer, there was no triple main event. There was only one main event, and that was the Raw Women’s championship.

Banks and Charlotte already made history by being the only women to main event a WWE pay-per-view. To add on to that, no other women have entered Hell in a Cell to compete in a match. So, the stakes were high, and the expectations were through the roof. Either way, there were WWE fans that had a disappointing feeling after the match, but some still loved it, and it is up there with the best women’s matches in WWE history.
To put it simply, there were changes made to the match before it took place at Hell in a Cell. WWE fans expect this all the time because that’s the way WWE likes to book Monday Night Raw; unorganized and sporadically. According to Ric Flair on the Busted Open Podcast, the Nature Boy revealed that a lot of changes were made to the match before Sasha Banks and Charlotte hit that ramp Sunday evening.
“For Vince to put them in the main event, you know, if I’m there and I’m watching the show, it’s a good thing they were in the main event, because nothing could have followed it”
“They took two huge spots out of the match, during the match, because they were afraid Sasha was going to get hurt. If the original plan had been, there were two things and I don’t want to say what they were, but you can only imagine. One of them involved a moonsault”
It’s a great thing the WWE decided to limit what the women could do at Hell in a Cell. Genetically, Charlotte may not have been able to survive a moonsault off the top of the cell. Shane McMahon and Mick Foley did because of their body type, physical look, and the nature of the planned spot. In a recent article by the Inquisitr, there was speculation that Sasha Banks was actually hurt in her match with Charlotte.

Banks is fragile and cannot withstand the punishment that Charlotte brought to her in their series of matches. That isn’t a knock on The Boss, but rather a fact that has visible proof throughout the last several months. The WWE has had to change their plans with the Raw Women’s championship on multiple occasions, and it’s simply not fair to the WWE fans.
At one point, according to Daily Wrestling News , Banks was scheduled to win the match at Hell in a Cell. WWE officials changed their mind due to Bayley getting put into a title feud with Charlotte.
So, since Banks won the title off of Charlotte in Pittsburgh several months ago, the title has changed two more times, and it’s now going include Bayley. Banks will be held off TV for presumably two or three months. That will give fans time to see WWE change the script once again and include meaningless segments. WWE Raw’s Women’s Division cannot get it together, while Smackdown Live’s women are hitting home runs. Survivor Series shouldn’t be a competition, but that’s for another day.
