Much to the surprise of fans and the American public, Kanye West met with President-elect Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday. Naturally, the first question that came to people’s minds is “why?” Why did Kanye, who was just hospitalized , meet with the next president of the United States?

According to Trump, it was to “discuss life,” reported E! News .

“We’ve been friends for a long time. We discussed life.”

However, Kanye took to Twitter to share what the two really discussed. The rapper said he wanted to talk to Trump about “multicultural issues” that include bullying, supporting teachers, and addressing violence in Chicago.

“I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.”

While these are valid topics, Twitter users are baffled, if not angered, by the meeting. People are questioning Trump’s motives as they say meeting with West is a waste of his time amid bigger issues. One Twitter user went so far as to call Kanye a “fool” in their response to the meeting.

“Some Presidents take intel briefings, others meet with fools.”

Yet another said Donald seemingly doesn’t have time for security briefings, but can find time to meet with Kanye to discuss life.

“#DonaldTrump no time 4 security briefings but time 2 meet with #KanyeWest 2 discuss ‘life’ Can’t make this stuff up!”

Of course, in addition to questioning why Donald decided to spend time talking with Kanye in the first place, people are calling the rapper a hypocrite. West has been quoted as saying former President George Bush “doesn’t care about black people,” but he’s now meeting with Trump, who has been accused of being racist. You can see how people are utterly confused by this meeting.

A Twitter user’s response to Kanye meeting with Trump reflected people’s confusion and questions regarding his view points.

“#KanyeWest admires #Trump, who is supported by the KKK, Alt-Right, & David Duke. Dafuq happened to 2005 #Kanye?!”

But the controversy doesn’t stop there. Other Twitter users brought attention to the fact Kanye West is making headlines for sitting down with Trump amid world tragedy .

#Aleppo: “This morning 20 women committed suicide in order not to be raped. Meanwhile, at Trump Tower…#KanyeWest.”

However, Twitter isn’t the only place criticizing Trump’s meeting with Kanye. According to Business Insider , The Daily Show had a few things to say about the meeting and how it was covered. Host Trevor Noah brought up the fact that news outlets such as CNN broke away from covering other more newsworthy headlines to show Kanye entering Trump Towers.

Noah had a few sarcastic jokes regarding the incident, which were echoed in Twitter comments as well.

“The media is the best. It really makes you wonder how America ended up electing a celebrity president.”

All jokes aside, Trump meeting with Kanye has raised more than a few eyebrows. As soon-to-be President, Donald not only has a lot on his plate, but he also has power. And people are anxiously watching to see what he does with that power. If scheduling meetings with controversial music artists to hear their take on social issues is at the top of Trump’s list, then it’s going to be an interesting four years.

Did Trump really need Kanye to bring bullying and violence issues to his attention? As if the President-elect isn’t fully aware of these problems? Plus, Kanye is most likely not qualified to be giving political advice given he has zero experience. Hopefully, the next president of the United States doesn’t continue to rely on meetings with Kanye West in order to keep him up to date with social issues.
