Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the royal family also meant moving away from the U.K. The controversial move grabbed attention worldwide, as it highlighted the deep rift behind closed doors at Buckingham Palace. Now that a few years have passed, reports suggest that the Sussex couple might be eyeing a return to the U.K., but only if one of their primary conditions is met.
However, it is easier said than done. The couple’s legal battle at the time of their departure highlighted their major struggle to maintain security for their family. Prince Harry has remained particularly concerned about visits with his children to see King Charles III at Sandringham, unless security concerns are resolved.
The only way out of this situation for Harry would be if his father were to extend an invitation for the Sussexes to visit. In such a case, the provision of tight security would be an inevitable part of the meeting.

This has, in fact, highlighted the possibility that Prince Harry may still be awaiting a formal invitation from his estranged family. It must be noted that the prince has frequently been snubbed by his family members. Thus, it makes the possibility of Harry and Meghan getting a call from Buckingham Palace more distant than ever.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has urged a review of his security arrangements by the U.K. government. In the interim, this still leaves a chance for Harry to visit his father if Charles sends word. A source close to the prince told The Sunday Times that Harry would still very much like his father to call him.
The source mentioned, “If the prince were invited by the King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in. He’d like an invite to Sandringham. If the King was to say, ‘Come up and spend some time with the family’, he’d love that.”
That being said, a call from King Charles III wouldn’t automatically mean the end of security issues for Prince Harry and his family. A court in 2025 issued a similar ruling when it came to the Sussexes getting protection. Harry, during a BBC interview at the time, had lamented this issue, which prevents him from visiting his homeland.
He discussed the chances of reuniting with his father, saying he feared Charles may not have many years ahead of him. In his words, “I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Not just his father, but Harry has been distanced from his elder brother, Prince William, as well. Ever since he left Buckingham Palace with his wife, Meghan, things between the two siblings have only worsened. So much so that hushed reports from the royal family’s inner circle have claimed that a reconciliation between them stands highly unlikely. Separating from his family, Harry and Meghan have set up their individual base and flourished with distinct accomplishments.
Nonetheless, given all the bad blood which has brewed between Harry, William and King Charles, a reunion is still a bleak hope. Additionally, since the court review of the Duke of Sussex continues to be reviewed, retracing steps back to this home is likely not to happen anytime soon.
