Man of Steel is already soaring past $150 million at the box office.

Zack Snyder’s polarizing Superman movie continues to draw audiences to the theater during the work week. In fact, steady business has helped pushed the flick past the $150 million mark.

According to Alt Film Guide , it’s believed Man of Steel crossed this threshold on Tuesday. However, yesterday’s numbers have yet to be revealed by the studio at the time of this writing.

If the movie generated as many ticket sales on Tuesday as it did on Monday, then it’s safe to say Man of Steel has soared beyond the $150 million mark. Box Office Mojo reports the movie made a tidy $12.2 million on Monday, bringing its domestic total to around $141 million.

This means Snyder’s flick only needs approximately $9 million to make it to $150 million. The movie is also well on its way to recouping its massive $225 million budget; the superhero epic has earned approximately $214 million worldwide. Of course, this figure doesn’t take Tuesday’s totals into consideration.

Needless to say, the suits at Warner Bros. are quite happy with the way Man of Steel has performed at the box office. In fact, recent reports suggest the sequel is already in the works at the studio. Warner is said to be eyeing at 2014 release date for the proposed follow-up. Of course, these reports haven’t been confirmed by anyone on an official level.

Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer said the studio is hoping to build a franchise in much the same way Marvel did with its characters. However, Warner’s approach might be a little different than its competitor.

“[The studio] hopes there will be a ‘Justice League’ film and perhaps you might start seeing other characters appearing in each other’s films. I think in some ways they’re interested in going perhaps the opposite direction that Marvel has done which may be to do a group film and then spin off,” the writer explained to Empire .

Are you surprised Man of Steel is enjoying so much success at the box office? What did you think about Zack Snyder’s Superman movie?
