Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz recently endured a cheating scandal on Vanderpump Rules , and in a new interview, the couple opened up about moving forward from the incident.
“What I did was awful, and I truly feel terrible about it,” Schwartz explained to Hollywood Life on February 7.
“I’m not going to make light of it or undermine the situation. That being said, if you’re going to cheat, it’s probably the best way to do it — there was no prior relationship and there was no relationship after I was drunk. It was still terrible, but what happened was pretty innocent. Like I said, I’m not undermining what I did. I feel awful about it, I really do. I know I make jokes, but it’s just a defense mechanism. I like to keep things light. But trust me, I paid for it.”
According to Katie Maloney cheating “is so bad,” but “it happens.”
“For me, a lot of the reason why I could get past it was [because] there wasn’t a romantic relationship or affair. There were no emotions attached to it, drunken, sloppy make-out — that’s not a lot to get your panties in a twist about. You know? It’s really not, in my opinion. And I think cheating is so bad, and it’s really hurtful and damaging to relationships, but it happens. It happens to a lot of couples, and couples that have been together longer than we have.”
“I can have an understanding — as long as [he’s] not texting and telling someone that [he] loves them and misses them more than me, it’s fine,” she explained. “I’m not saying [he] should go out and do it again, but it’s really not the end of the world.”
Although Katie Maloney may have sounded as if Schwartz’s cheating was no big deal, Schwartz said he did pay for his mistake.
“Lesson has been learned. For any guys listening out there, just let me tell you — you probably already know this, but cheating is not worth it,” he said, also joking, “Oh, my God. After the cameras stopped rolling, she pummeled my face.”
While things between Maloney and Schwartz were often strained on Vanderpump Rules Season 3, they are better than ever now. And, as the Inquisitr reported, Schwartz claimed in a new interview that an engagement was coming soon .
“You’ll see. It’s coming up,” Schwartz teased . “I’m going to make it happen.”
